Director General of the Smart Dubai Office Dr. Aisha bint Butti bin Bishr said that the UAE is among the world’s leading nations in electronic transformation undertaken as part of realising the leadership’s vision to make the UAE government the best in the world and providing a comprehensive set of quality services to residents.
The transition from traditional government to electronic government, which started in 2000, was a key step in the government’s journey towards achieving the seventh global rank in e-government services, she said. The initiative announced by Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to move from e-government to smart government in 2013 reflects his objective of laying the foundations of a smart city at an early stage, she added.
The UAE Ministry of Finance (MoF) signed a membership document with the Medical Office of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs and two agreements with Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) and the National Health Insurance Company (Daman) to join the e-Dirham system, a fully integrated electronic payment and revenue collection system developed in partnership with First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB).
The first agreement was signed between MOF (represented by HE Saeed Rashid Al Yateem, Assistant Undersecretary for Resources and Budget Sector) and the Medical Office at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, represented by Undersecretary and Director General HE Hassan Ahmad Al Alkeem Al Zaabi. Additional agreements were subsequently signed by MOF both with Daman (represented by board member HE Dr. Saeed Abdullah bin Mutlaq Al Ghafli) and SEHA (represented by Managing Director Mr.Abdullah Saeed Al Dhahri). In line with FAB’s role in the system, Han’a Al Rustamani, Group Head of Personal Banking at FAB countersigned the agreements with Daman and SEHA on behalf of the bank.

The UAE has set impressive milestones that stand as inspiration to other countries
Celebrating 46 years of unification initiated by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE continues to march towards excellence. From improving infrastructure to introducing stringent laws for animal welfare, the UAE is truly a nation that sets inspiring goals.
The UAE recognises the importance of building and developing future cities, relying on innovative and creative ideas in line with its development over the past years and its reputation on the global map in the coming years, Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development, said in his inaugural address on Monday at the Arab Future Cities Summit 2017.
''We are committed not only to keeping pace with the latest developments but also to foresight challenges, develop and analyse visions concerning all vital sectors and design long-term plans that will achieve a qualitative leap at all levels. This can only be achieved through the development of cities and infrastructure to cope with the latest current developments,'' said Al Nauaimi, who is also Chairman of the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme.
