The Sarawak government will look into providing for more connectivity between Kuching and cities outside Sarawak as part of efforts to further improve the tourism industry.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said in doing so, the state government is also creating more smart cities in Sarawak.

“Now of course we have Miri. Sibu is going to be rejuvenated into a vibrant city. And we have plans to extend Kuching city with the provision of facilities including improvement in our public transport.

Local councils play a key role in ensuring the state’s progress and transformation efforts, with four major councils leading the way under the Greater Johor Baru initiative.

The four councils which play a crucial role in shaping the region’s future are Johor Baru City Council (MBJB), Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) and Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu).

Through innovative technologies, strategic investments and sustainability-driven policies, these councils are setting new benchmarks for urban living.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has extended a contract for Datasonic to supply the chips used in its biometric passports, polycarbonate biodata pages and passport booklets themselves by another year.

The chip deal adds 104.78 million Malaysian ringgits (approximately US$23.86 million) to the deal’s total value.

The initiative aims to enable civil servants to better generate content, summarise information, analyse data, and enhance meetings with AI-generated notes.

Malaysia’s Digital Ministry has organised a training programme for 200 civil servants, aiming to enhance their skills in using generative AI tools as part of the government’s push for digital transformation.

The Ipoh Sentral Project symbolises the state government's commitment to transforming Ipoh into a progressive and resilient city, in line with the aspirations of Perak Sejahtera 2030.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the project reflects the state government's grand vision to elevate Ipoh into a modern city, responsive to future needs, and aims to create a more organised, community-friendly urban lifestyle.
