Klang Municipal Council’s (MPK) Smart City 2030 Action Plan is people-centric.

Its president Noraini Roslan, who launched the action plan, said MPK had taken into consideration the people’s views in drawing up strategies.

“Our plan involves engagement sessions with the people, data collection, public surveys, meetings and analyses to obtain suggestions for comprehensive smart city planning,” she said at the council’s full board meeting.

Johor’s Iskandar Puteri still has some way to go before it can further reduce its carbon footprint and be as green it wants to be, but it is heading steadfastly in that direction.

On Nov 22, 2017, Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar officially proclaimed Iskandar Puteri as Johor’s second city after Johor Baru. This also made it the 14th city in Malaysia. The Johor Baru Central Municipal Council, which was established on March 1, 1978, was upgraded to the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) on Jan 1, 2001.

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has developed a tree inventory application to assess the health of trees in the city to ensure public safety.

The application database called ‘e-Palsa’ was developed last year under the city council’s asset management initiative in line with the Smart Selangor concept to monitor and analyse high risk and dangerous trees.

“This is to complement our existing smart city asset management system,” said Shah Alam mayor Dr Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid.

Shah Alam’s elderly population has increased by as much as 8% this year, says mayor Dr Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid.

To cater to this increase, he said there is a plan to build a complex specially for senior citizens by Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

He said the proposed site for the complex was at Section 13 opposite the Management and Science University (MSU).

The Seremban City Council (MBS) will procure electric vehicles (EV) and also encourage property owners to use solar power in its aspiration to turn the Negri Sembilan capital into a smart and low carbon emission city by 2027.

Mayor Datuk Masri Razali said as a start, MBS will acquire four electric scooters this year for enforcement and patrolling.

He said MBS had been working towards achieving these objectives since Seremban obtained city status in 2020.
