From housing above highways to digital twins, industry experts gathered at “Future Cities: Infrastructure Ready Cities 2026” to explore strategies for smarter, resilient cities.

The two-day event, organised by Star Media Group, discussed topics such as transit-oriented development, smart and resilient infrastructure, infrastructure financing and public-private partnerships (PPPs), urban planning and local governance, urban proptech, as well as net-zero ecosystems and ESG compliance.

Malaysia’s government cloud backbone is becoming an increasingly important layer of digital infrastructure supporting smart-city initiatives, planning systems and public service delivery — including areas linked to land administration, housing and construction approvals.

This comes as the Cloud Framework Agreement (CFA 1.0) involving AwanBiru Technology Bhd (Awantec), Google Cloud Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Awantec Systems Sdn Bhd has been extended to June 2027, ensuring continuity of cloud infrastructure and services while the successor Cloud Framework Agreement 2.0 (CFA 2.0) is being prepared.

The GovTech flagship report launched today outlines 15 strategic recommendations anchored on four key pillars to strengthen productivity in Malaysia’s public sector through digital transformation.

Published jointly by the World Bank and the Digital Ministry, the report identifies the four pillars as strengthening digital foundations, building a digitally capable public service, reinforcing delivery governance, and providing user-centric government services.

Children must actively embrace Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to play a pivotal role in shaping the future landscape of the city.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said technology should ultimately serve to improve urban quality of life—specifically by easing traffic congestion, protecting the environment, conserving energy, and bolstering public safety.
