Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is actively implementing the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various aspects of smart city management, with two main initiatives highlighted: digital twin and AI-powered traffic management.

The Digital Ministry said the digital twin initiative is a virtual city model that allows real-time simulations to be used for more effective urban planning and faster emergency responses.

The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) is strengthening community involvement in urban development through the rebranded Smart City Friends programme.

Formerly known as the Rakan Bandaraya initiative introduced in 2002, the programme is now open to all segments of society, including students from higher education institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), trader communities, neighbourhood watch groups, senior citizens, youth and the general public.

The Sarawak government will look into providing for more connectivity between Kuching and cities outside Sarawak as part of efforts to further improve the tourism industry.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said in doing so, the state government is also creating more smart cities in Sarawak.

“Now of course we have Miri. Sibu is going to be rejuvenated into a vibrant city. And we have plans to extend Kuching city with the provision of facilities including improvement in our public transport.

In a significant leap towards sustainable urban transformation, six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed on Wednesday, heralding a new era for the ambitious Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) project here.

The agreements were executed by Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, led by chairman Teo Ah King, in collaboration with a consortium of prominent companies, including the China Energy Engineering Group Guangxi Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd, Shandong Yutong Road and Bridge Group Co. Ltd, Shandong Tianhua Industry Co. Ltd, Shandong Dawang Energy Development Co. Ltd, and UBlok Advanced Materials Co. Ltd.

Local councils play a key role in ensuring the state’s progress and transformation efforts, with four major councils leading the way under the Greater Johor Baru initiative.

The four councils which play a crucial role in shaping the region’s future are Johor Baru City Council (MBJB), Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) and Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu).

Through innovative technologies, strategic investments and sustainability-driven policies, these councils are setting new benchmarks for urban living.
