  • Qatar: Online visa renewal facility for private firms

    Private concerns with more than 300 employees can now get residence permits of their workers issued or even renewed through the Internet, an announcement made by the e-government said yesterday.
  • Qatar: Over 46,000 online exit permits issued

    A total of about 46,154 exit permits were issued electronically through the e-Government Department since this new service was officially launched in February this year.

    More than 400 companies have subscribed to this service, which was jointly introduced by ictQATAR and the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

  • Qatar: Over QR846m worth e-govt transactions

    Qatar’s e-government website — Hukoomi (www.gov.qa) — processed online transactions worth QR846,732,738 through its payment gateway last year, a senior ictQatar official told The Peninsula yesterday.

    The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQatar) is set to launch a new range of e-services bringing the people and government closer, the official added.

  • Qatar: Parents slam tedious attestation process

    Long queues at the Ministry of Education have become common as parents wait for their wards' high school certificates to be attested. The Ministry is handling the entire process after receiving instructions to carry out the task from the Supreme Education Council (SEC).

    One of the problems is that there are only a handful of employees to do the work. The process is also cumbersome, parents complained to an Arabic daily. They said when Qatar is moving firmly towards e-government, the queues are an anachronism.

  • Qatar: Payment of Qtel bills on e-govt portal unlikely

    Qatar Telecom (Qtel) might not be able to offer the facility of online settlement of its bills through Qatar's e-government portal but instead, may provide a link that would redirect the customer to the company's portal, Dr Nasser M Marafih, the Qtel Chief Executive Officer, said here yesterday.
  • Qatar: Plan to unify e-governance services

    ictQATAR recently released an i-Gov White Paper highlighting its Integrated e-Government programme.

    The Integrated E-Government Programme (i-Gov), a government operated information and communication technology (ICT) project, is aimed at integrating all the services provided by various agencies of the Qatari government into a unified system.

  • Qatar: Power outage disrupts issuing of online exit permits

    Some passengers travelling out of Qatar faced difficulty yesterday as their employers could not process their exit permits online due to a brief interruption in power supply at the e-government portal.

    A company public relations official, mandoub, told this newspaper that some of his company's employees could not get exit permit reference through e-government at the Doha International Airport.

  • Qatar: Prosecution and ministry archives to be e-linked

    A Project to electronically connect the archive systems of public prosecution and security departments under the Ministry of Interior has been inaugurated.

    The project was jointly launched by HE the Minister of State for Internal Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, and the attorney general Dr Ali bin Muhsin bin Futas al-Murri, at a function at the public prosecution building.

    Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Misnad, vice-chairman of the State Security Agency, Staff Maj Gen Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi, director general of public security, and other senior officers attended the function.

  • Qatar: Public security complex opens in Shahaniya

    A huge public security-cum-service complex has been opened in Al Shahaniya where the services provided include visa issuance and renewal, fingerprinting, passport issuance and e-government services.

    The Minister of State for Interior Affairs, H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, inaugurated the complex on Thursday.

    The premises boast a comprehensive security and service complex that comprises buildings for several offices, such as Dukhan Security Department (DSD), a Services Centre with a special annexe for Qatari passports and Qatari Smart ID Cards and a Civil Defence Centre in addition to branches for the Drug Prevention Department and Criminal Investigation.

  • Qatar: Q-Post to resume e-resident facility soon

    The e-resident facility that allows expatriates to renew residence permits of spouses and children through the special counters at the Doha General Post Office and the Q-Post branch at the LuLu Hypermarket will resume shortly, Ali Mohammad Al Ali, chairman of the General Postal Corporation, said here yesterday.

    These services had been suspended since 10 days due to for upgradation of the e-resident system offered by Qatar's e-government, he added.

  • Qatar: QNB boost for e-govt initiative

    QNB, the country’s largest bank, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Finance have formally launched an electronic pre-paid (e-cash) card.

    Top QNB officials and their counterparts from the ministries attended the launch ceremony held at Sheraton Doha Hotel yesterday.

    The launch of the e-cash card is yet another major development in the e-government initiatives, the officials said.

  • Qatar: QNB official hails govt steps in e-governance

    Qatar has made great strides in setting-up e-government, adopting the latest technology and is currently rapidly expanding the number of services being provided, Ali Ahmed Al-Kuwari, General Manager of Technology and Operations at Qatar National Bank (QNB) said yesterday.

    Al-Kuwari told a news conference that providing numerous electronic services is not an end in itself, but the idea is that a wider base of ordinary users utilises these services.

  • Qatar: Qtel adopts ICDL as the digital skills standard for its 1,900 employees

    Qatar Telecom (Qtel), Qatar's exclusive telecommunications service provider has signed an agreement with ICDL GCC Foundation, the governing body and the certification authority of the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) program in the Gulf States, in the capital Doha on Monday (January 29, 2007), to provide the ICDL digital skills program for its 1,900 administrative and operational employees.

    Through this agreement, Qtel becomes the first telecom company in the region to adopt the ICDL computer competency standard a requirement for all its employees.

  • Qatar: Resident permit renewal service at GPO

    Expatriates residing in Qatar with their families can now renew the Residence Permits of the spouse and kids without the hassles of waiting in long queues or employing the services of a 'Mandoop': The Qatar e-government has introduced an instant RP and Qatar ID-card renewal service at the Doha General Post Office.

    Under this service, available at the dedicated e-resident counters at the GPO, expatriates have to simply fill up the forms for renewal of the RP and the ID-card. They have to submit these completed forms with a passport-size picture of the person whose RP and ID card is to be renewed along with a photocopy of their own, valid ID card at the e-resident counter.

  • Qatar: RPs home-delivery for expats soon

    Expatriates will soon be able to renew their residence permits from home and have them delivered to their doorsteps.This and similar services would become accessible to everyone in the country when the government begins to issue smart cards to expatriates "by the end of this year or early next year".

    The passport would be collected from home and returned after stamping by Q-Post. It will charge QR20 for the service.

  • Qatar: SCENR e-project to make services faster

    Members of the public, companies and corporations will soon be able to access the services of the Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Reserves (SCENR) on line, with the launch of its E-portal project.

    The portal will make faster and simpler the services and procedures of SCENR, especially issuance of various permits to the public, throughout the week.

  • Qatar: SCICT launches identity 'ictQATAR'

    At an opening ceremony, the Supreme Council for Information and Communication Technology (SCICT) outlined its mission and programs to develop ICT in Qatar.

    At the launch, the Chairman, His Highness the Heir Apparent of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, introduced the identity of SCICT as ictQATAR and shared ictQATAR's vision, mission and objectives with an audience that included His Excellency the Prime Minister, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani and ictQATAR's Vice Chairman, His Excellency the Minister of Finance of Qatar, Yousef Hussain Kamal.

  • Qatar: Small firms lag in ICT use: survey

    Qatar’s small enterprises have fallen far behind large businesses in ICT adoption, a survey reveals.

    Small enterprises are those that employ 10 people or less. They constitute about 80% of all enterprises in Qatar and employ about 18% of the total workforce.

    The survey conducted on behalf of telecom regulator ictQATAR reveals that small enterprises trail larger firms in all indicators including e-business infrastructure, broadband Internet connectivity, web presence and Internet utilisation to interact with government agencies and financial institutions.

  • Qatar: Smart card for expats nearer with deal

    Qatar came one step closer to issuing Smart ID cards for expatriates with the signing of a QR31m agreement with a local IT company for the project.

    According to the agreement, signed between the Ministry of Interior and Itqan Holding last week, the latter will assist the Ministry in issuing the smart ID cards, specifically for expatriates. The project is to be implemented in 12 months.

  • Qatar: Smart ID cards for expats by year-end

    Expatriats in Qatar will be able to avail of several services offered by smart ID cards by the end of this year, an official said yesterday.

    Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a seminar on the uses of smart cards, officially launched last October for Qataris, IT Department director at the Ministry of Interior, Col Saleh Khamis al-Kobeisi, said that expatriates would start receiving smart cards by the end of this year.
