Transforming Government since 2001
Some passengers travelling out of Qatar faced difficulty yesterday as their employers could not process their exit permits online due to a brief interruption in power supply at the e-government portal.

A company public relations official, mandoub, told this newspaper that some of his company's employees could not get exit permit reference through e-government at the Doha International Airport.

"As per the new rules, we should apply online using e-government to get reference numbers for exit permits. Unfortunately, there had been a problem with the home page of e-Qatar resulting in the hiccup," he said.

"This was perhaps due to an interruption of power supply during peak hours around noon" said Hassan Al Saeid, manager of IT platforms at the iCT when contacted by The Peninsula yesterday.

"It's true that some companies contacted iCT complaining that they were not able to process exit permit applications online," he added.

However, the authorities concerned at the airport allowed companies to process exit permits to facilitate travel as a special case to overcome the situation," said Al Saeid.

As per a decision of the Ministry of Interior, companies having more than 25 employees have to process exit permits through the e-government.

The deadline for implementing this decision expired in March, but the ministry had extended it twice to May and August, according to Al Saeid.

This was the first time that iCT had confronted such a crisis and Kahramaa brought the situation under control by rectifying the problem, said Al Saeid.
