Matsushita Electric announced January 20 that it has developed a systems-on-chip (SoC) IC for embedded use on non-contact smartcards which are based on the Java Card platform developed by Sun Microsystems. The new chip also complies with the e-government Basic Resident Register card standard established by the Japanese government.
