Speakers at a seminar Friday stressed the need for using the tools of information and communication technology (ICT) to bring down rising incidence of road accidents in the country.

Telecommunications experts have showed that fatality rate is less in those countries that use modern tools in their road management system.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) organised the seminar at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre marking the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD).

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Thursday said that the government’s move to reach the domain of E-Governance will not be possible within the tenure of the present government and it will take a little more time.

“E-Governance will not be possible within our tenure and it will take a little more time… that was also not our target,” he said while inaugurating the three-day Sylhet E- Commerce Fair and Digital Innovation Fair 2013 through video conference from his secretariat office.

Good governance is a recent phenomenon which draws upon the concepts from several disciplines such as politics, economics, public administration, law and order and so on. In Bangladesh as in elsewhere, governance either good or bad has become a matter of frequent discussions. It is apparent that traditional government structures and systems of Bangladesh are no longer befitting enough to meet the demands of rising citizen-aspirations and challenges emerging from a host of factors. As a result, the role of the government accepted earlier as the 'sole provider' is being questioned.

Muhith admits its efficacy in curbing graft

Finance Minister AMA Muhith said Thursday the government is not in a position to establish e-governance during its tenure due to time constraint and the lack of required preparations.

"Introducing e-governance in the public sector will not be possible during our time in office as the system demands a holistic approach and more time for a meaningful beginning," Mr Muhith told reporters at his ministry office while inaugurating the three-day Sylhet E-Commerce Fair and Digital Innovation Fair 2013 through a video conference.

Smart School concept is comparatively a new idea an institutional framework in the field of education, especially at school level, in Bangladesh. Bangladesh government has taken an initiative to introduce ICT in education and ICT education at secondary level.

The purpose of this initiative is to ensure a vibrant and effective teaching learning environment for a student to cope as a future global citizen. ICT gives students better understanding in a systematic way, makes learning more interesting and enjoyable and motivates them to more practice self-managed learning, while teachers tend to be more creative and innovative in their teaching methods.
