The government of Bangladesh with financial assistance of World Bank (WB) is implementing the project, which has also potential to create up to another 30,000 jobs.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and also her son, broke the news at an event in New York on Sunday.
The award will be handed over on Sept 30 in Mexico’s Guadalajara during a conference of the World Congress on ICT.
He was attending ICT East 2014, a flagship event organized by CII Eastern Region in Kolkata.
The Bangladesh Government is looking at joint ventures with Indian companies in the sector. Indian companies now are mostly into trading.

Bangladesh government’s Minister for Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Abdul Latif Siddiqui said that considerable focus is on Indian companies for building “Digital Bangladesh.” They were addressing the gathering at the ICT (information and communication technology) East 2014 organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Eastern Region.

This will not only build greater synergies in information technology between the two countries but also create more near-shore outsourcing opportunities.
Bangladesh’s IT export revenues stood at around $250 million in 2013-14 against India’s $110 billion. The neighbouring country has seen its IT market registering a 100 per cent growth in the last fiscal. The buoyancy has been achieved largely on the back of start-up companies and the entrepreneurship-enabling environment.
