Vietnam’s Department of Information Technology, under the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment, is now preparing a proposal that will let government agencies in the country share information via the cloud, said Nguyen Huu Chinh, Department of Information Technology’s Director General.

Also keen to share inter-agency information through the cloud is the Information and Communication Technology Centre, Ministry of Science and Technology. Bui Dac Phuc, Deputy Director of the agency said that they already have a 1-year project with a budget of US$2 million approved.

The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) will develop a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) project to support eGovernment development with the help of CrimsonLogic.

When fully implemented, the National Authentication Framework (NAF) will enable users to access government services using a single electronic identity, bringing ease and convenience to citizen transactions with the government.

MIC Authority of IT Application Director General, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuc said in an official statement, “Technology plays a key role for Vietnam to become a strong nation in IT and in eGovernment implementation. We are deeply committed to the development of a reliable IT infrastructure as it advances the use of technology in government agencies, which improves productivity and reduces operational costs.”

Giving shape to the government’s vision of becoming a leader in IT and e-government implementation, various departments and ministries in Vietnam have been using cloud computing to increase efficiency while cutting costs.

Dr Quach Tuan Ngoc, Director General, ICT Department, Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) told FutureGov that his department had benefited from using cloud computing. In a document released recently, the ICT department has instructed local education and training departments to shift to cloud computing. “We use Google and Viettel services,” said Ngoc.

The Ministry of Finance recently approved its information technology master plan which aims to promote IT application in the tax managing activities to improve the power and effectiveness of the tax system and tax procedure transparency.

To fulfil this plan, the ministry is making preparations to develop a large, core integrated information system that can serve taxation, customs, budget, treasury, securities, and many other operations.

The Department of Information and Communication of Hanoi, for the first time, has made public the IT application rating of state agencies and offices in the city.

According to Mr. Pham Quoc Ban, Head of the Department of Information and Communications, the rating will help each state agency assess its own IT performance in comparison with practical requirements so as to work out more proper IT application plans in the coming years.

The Customs Department, State Treasury and Department of Planning and Investment are among the top units in the rating. Meanwhile, Tay Ho and Son Tay districts earn high scores for the implementation of infrastructure deployment and policies for IT application.
