The Ministry of Trade and Industry announced yesterday the official launch of eCoSys, a system designed to grant and manage certificates of origin (C/O) online at the website www.ecvn.com.

The launching ceremony was attended by representatives of the ministry, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the E-Commercial Business Association, and other private businesses.

Under the system, exporters in Vietnam would apply for C/O for their products from the ministry through the Internet instead of the mail, said the ministry.

Switching to Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) is vital for Viet Nam to increase efficiency and transparency in public spending, a seminar on procurement in Viet Nam heard yesterday.

By publishing all transactions online, relationships between purchasers and suppliers for the acquisition of goods, works and consultancy services required by the public sector are available.

The fifth Viet Nam E-government Symposium in December will discuss the increasing importance of having an active online presence for state and local governments.

The conference will be held in HCM City on December 4-6 by the Ministry of Information and Communication, HCM City’s Posts and Telematics Department and International Data Group (IDG).

IT application at state organisations is in the first stage, reported a conference on promoting IT application held in the framework of the IT Week 16 in Hanoi Thursday.

At the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuc, Vice Head of the Communication and Information Strategy Institute, said that 95% of ministries, sectors and provinces have their own websites. But most of the websites only provide basic information about the owners.

Ethnic minority people in the remote commune of Ta Van, Lao Cai province will soon have access to the World Wide Web, thanks to a pilot project announced on Sept. 20.

Sponsored by Intel, Viet Nam Data Communications Group (VDC) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the project’s first step is to develop a portable internet conductivity solution that can later be upgraded. Eleven locations in Ta Van village, which is 11km from Sapa, will be connected to the Internet. The locations include the post office, school, guesthouse and commune council.
