The Ogun State Government has said that it is set to create smart cities through its regeneration schemes across all the urban centres in the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, who disclosed this on Thursday during the 2024 World Environment Day (WED), with the theme: "Achieving the Smart City Agenda Through Climate Change Resilience and Urban Afforestation", noted that climate change was a phenomenon which everyone should actively participate in for a safer society.

Governor AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, last Wednesday marked the fifth anniversary of his administration in grand style as he unveiled the Ilorin Master Plan and the 20,000-hectare Ilorin Smart City project. The governor also commissioned the 4.7km Yebumot-Adeta Roundabout and Adeta-Oloje roads, which he named after two elder statesmen from the capital city — retired Major General Mohammed Abdullahi Adangba and prominent scholar Sheikh Yahya Murtadha Agodi.

As Governor AbdulRasaq was commissioning projects in Ilorin, his deputy, Kayode Alabi was in the northern senatorial district of the state to commission the Jebba waterworks, ending the community’s longstanding thirst for state-owned clean water source.

The Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum, AbdulRasaq AbdulRahman, at the weekend unveiled the llorin SmartCity and City Master Plan.

The carnival-like event came up at the Banquet Hall, opposite Kwara State Government House where the arrival of the Governor, AbdulRasaq AbdulRahman and his wife, Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRasaq heralded the unveiling of the entrepreneurship hub.

The CEO of the Havel Corporate Concept, an affiliate of Nigerian hardware and data protection firm ioSafe Nigeria, says July is the target release date of a road map for transforming Abuja into a smart city, which also includes a biometric smart card program.

NAN News reports that Dr. Ahmed Badanga says the proposed Abuja Residents Smart Card Project would incorporate biometric data to enable the holders to access government, security, financial, and transportation services, and possibly to make payments. He wants to build “a reliable database of all residents of Abuja to support the proposed smart city,” to “enhance an effective and realistic ecosystem for planning, especially in the provision and delivery of social services and amenities.”<
