Digital Nasional says initial rollout covers KL, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya, followed by 5 major cities and districts in 5 states by 2022

The national fifth generation (5G) network will be launched by the end of 2021 beginning with Kuala Lumpur (KL), Putrajaya and Cyberjaya, according to Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB).

A new Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) policy was launched by the government yesterday, aimed at accelerating and equipping Malaysian industries and society to navigate through the rapidly evolving digital and technological realms.

The policy is aimed to leverage on the synergy of the physical, biological, and digital worlds to elevate the country’s over-all value based on four policy thrusts; to equip the rakyat with 4IR knowledge and skill sets, to forge a connected nation through digital infrastructure development, to future proof regulations to be agile with technological changes, and to accelerate 4IR technology innovation and adoption.

Sepang Municipal Council’s (MPSepang) parking system is now digitalised in line with Selangor government’s efforts to turn the municipality into a smart city.

The council is moving away from prepaid parking scratch cards to an online system called GoPayy from June 15.

All businesses previously selling scratch cards have been recruited as GoPayy agents.

Malaysia is laying the right foundation for the nation's long-term digital transformation, according to Finnish telecommunications, information technology, and consumer electronics company Nokia Corp.

In a statement, Nokia head of South East Asia Daniel Jaeger said the National Digital Network (Jendela) initiative will be a critical component in narrowing the digital divide across the nation.

Malaysia is experiencing a broad-based digitalisation drive across government and business, and management consultancy 27 Group is aiming to support this process through its new transformation subsidiary – 27 Digital.

Launched in the first quarter of this year, the new outfit is charting out the high-impact areas of Malaysia’s digitalising economy – spanning business transformation, innovation and entrepreneurship, smart city development and agricultural technology (agritech).
