  • Malta tops EU e-government survey

    Malta has placed first in an EU benchmarking exercise of e-government services.

    The survey ranked services according to a number of criteria in an exercise carried out every two years. Malta was second in the last survey.

    The result was greeted with satisfaction this afternoon by IT Minister Austin Gatt, who said the results were particularly welcome as the concept of e-government was only launched nine years ago.

  • Malta tops IT exports among EU member states – EU report

    The European Commission’s Digital Competitiveness report published today shows that Europe’s digital sector has made strong progress since 2005: 56% of Europeans now regularly use the internet, 80% of them via a high-speed connection (compared to only one third in 2004), making Europe the world leader in broadband internet.

    The report found Malta performs well in the fields of eCommerce, eBusiness and the provision of eGovernment services, and displays a relatively high proportion of eSkills among employees.

  • Malta tops the list for eGovernment services

    The European Commission’s Benchmarking report on eGovernment services provided by Member States has been published. The report captures the results of the 8th measurement of eServices across Europe. The benchmark was established in 2001 and has become a cornerstone in the eGovernment measurement landscape and a prolific policy-informing tool at both a European and Member State level.

    This was announced by Minister Austin Gatt together with MITA Chairman Claudio Grech.

  • Malta’s egovernment services well advanced

    Malta has the second most electronic government services among 31 European countries, reported a survey by Capgemini published on Thursday. The study has been conducted annually since 2001, assessing more than 5,000 public agencies in the 27 member states of the European Union as well as Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.

    Austria’s egovernment services are top of the league, followed by Malta, Slovenia and Portugal and the United Kingdom.

  • MENA needs better integration of ICT into national competitiveness plans

    The Global Information Technology Report 2012: Living in a Hyperconnected World, was released by the World Economic Forum and INSEAD Business School. It published its Network Readiness Index (NRI) that ranks five GCC countries in the top 40 list globally, three of these in top 30: Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Oman, ranked at 27th, 28th, 30th, 34th and 40th respectively, demonstrating that they have embraced ICT to boost their country's competitiveness.

    On the other hand, countries in the Levant and North Africa still lag behind and face important challenges to fully leverage ICT. Jordan ranked (47), Tunisia (50), Egypt (79), Lebanon (95), Morocco (91), Algeria (118), and Syria (129).

  • Middle East leads the way in improving networked readiness

    The Global Information Technology Report 2007-2008 underlines the substantial progress the Middle East is making in ICT, spearheaded by the Gulf States. The Gulf States are increasingly emphasizing the role of ICT for national development, both as a key infrastructure and as a promising sector in view of diversifying their economies away from oil. As a whole, the Middle East stands out as having made the most progress in networked readiness over the last seven years and having recorded the largest growth in Internet users as citizens accessing the Web soared by more than 600%, three times the world’s average increase.

  • Moldova stuck in last place for e-government readiness

    In the latest UN study on e-government readiness, Moldova finishes last among all countries in Eastern Europe. Europe's poorest country is the least prepared for e-government. Meanwhile, Transdniestria pushes forward on its own and emulates Taiwan with its plan to bring all government services online.

    Among all states in Eastern Europe, Moldova has once again finished last in the latest UN rating of countries’ readiness for e-government, while nearby countries like Ukraine and Belarus improved their scores. According to the study, the Moldovans are the worst prepared country for the coming information society.

    Malta confirmed leading nation in the delivery of e-government services in the European Union.

    Malta has once again been confirmed as a leading nation in the delivery of e-Government services in the European Union, the Nationalist Party said today.

    In a report published by the European Commission, prepared in collaboration with global analysts Capgemini, RAND Europe, SOGETI and IDC, Malta has performed excellently in a rigorous benchmarking exercise clearly establishing it as the all-round best performer in e-Government in the EU27+.

    Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) today published its latest Networked Society City Index. The index ranks 31 cities and measures their ICT maturity in terms of leverage from ICT investments on economic, social and environmental development; the "triple bottom line" effect.

  • New Zealand: Kiwis top in internet use among 32 countries

    New Zealanders use the internet more than their neighbours across the Tasman as well as 30 other countries covered by a new international survey.

    Both Australia and New Zealand recorded high levels of people using government services online, although they were outstripped in that area by the Scandinavian countries, according to a government online survey by market research firm Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS).

    The Retirement Commission’s Sorted website, designed to help New Zealanders manage their finances and save for retirement, has been independently rated the most user-friendly and personable government website.

    The State Services Commission’s e-Govt Unit reviewed 56 government websites on a range of factors including accessibility, usability and personalisation. Sorted was rated the overall top website and scored highly on all factors.

    A new survey shows that New Zealanders are leading the world in their use of the Internet. The GO2002 survey taken last month, shows that 71 percent of New Zealanders had used the Internet in the previous month. That was the highest percentage of the 31 countries surveyed, which included Australia, Great Britain and the U.S.

    Norway's public service web portal Mypage has been awarded the European eGovernment Award 2007, the European award for outstanding e-administration solutions.

  • OM: Sultanate ranks fifth

    Sultanate stood eighth in the rate of increase in GSM usage and 29th in the development of e-services

    The Sultanate stood fifth among the Arab countries on Networked Readiness Index (NRI) of the Global Information Technology Report 2012 issued by the World Economic Forum. The Sultanate was placed at 40 internationally among 142 countries included in the report.

    The NRI measures the propensity for countries to exploit the opportunities offered by information and communications technology (ICT).

  • Oman climbs to 84th in UN e-Govt survey

    Oman now ranks a much higher 84th in e-government with an e-Government readiness index of 0.4691 compared to what it was three years ago.

    According to the United Nations’ 2008 e-Government Readiness Report, ranking countries by e-government development, Oman has jumped 28 points up in this ranking to 84th position in 2008 from 112th in 2005.

  • Oman fares well in global IT performance

    Oman has fared well in the Global Information Technology Report for 2010-11, published by the World Economic Forum to evaluate countries’ performances in IT and related issues. The sultanate was placed 41st in the Networked Readiness Index (NRI), among 138 countries.

    The annual Global IT Report remains the world’s most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of information communications technologies (ICTs) on the development process and the competitiveness of nations.

    The NRI, featured in the report, ex-amines how prepared countries are to use ICT effectively across three component sub-indexes: the general business, regulatory, and infrastructure environment; the readiness of the three key stakeholder groups in a society: individuals, businesses, and governments to use and benefit ICT; and the actual usage of the latest ICTs available.

  • Oman gets high global ranking for embracing IT

    Oman has been placed 50th among 133 countries in the Global IT Report 2009-2010 just released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in recognition of its efforts at creating a sustainable knowledge society by embracing information and communications technology (ICT).

    The report notes that the sultanate has established a secure infrastructure and national IT training and capacity building base, and specifically mentions the launch of the official eGovernment Services Portal. Published for the ninth consecutive year and covering 133 countries worldwide and with over 100 indicators and detailed profiles of each of the countries featured, the Global IT Report is regarded as the most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of ICT on the development process and the competitiveness of nations.

    The Sultanate has moved ahead in terms of the emphasis governments place on ICT's role in enhancing development process and future visions, it was reported in the Global Information Technology Report 2010-2011 released by the World Economic Forum and business school for the world in governments' adopting and implementing ICT advances for increased growth and development.

    With coverage of 138 economies worldwide, the report is the world's most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of ICT on the development process and the competitiveness of nations.
