Transforming Government since 2001
The Sultanate has moved ahead in terms of the emphasis governments place on ICT's role in enhancing development process and future visions, it was reported in the Global Information Technology Report 2010-2011 released by the World Economic Forum and business school for the world in governments' adopting and implementing ICT advances for increased growth and development.

With coverage of 138 economies worldwide, the report is the world's most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of ICT on the development process and the competitiveness of nations.

The Sultanate's advanced ranking reflects the readiness to e- government.

The Networked Readiness Index (NRI) featured in the report examines how prepared countries are to use ICT effectively on three dimensions: the general business, regulatory and infrastructure environment for ICT; the readiness of the three key societal actors -- individuals, businesses and governments -- to use and benefit from ICT; and their actual usage of available ICT. In the general networked readiness index, the Sultanate advanced to the 41 rank compared to the 50th rank in the previous year.

In the readiness component of the index which measures individuals, business and government readiness the Sultanate received the 40th, 52nd and 13th rankings respectively while in the usage component it ranked 48th, 56th and 45th in individual, business and government usages respectively.

The Sultanate's rankings in the environment component are 31st (market environment), 45th (political and regulatory environment) and 71st (infrastructure environment).
