  • UAE: Govt departments to showcase services at Dubai e-Govt stand

    The Dubai eGovernment stand at Gitex Dubai 2003 will witness participation by 21 government departments and ministries who will showcase a host of online services offered through the unified portal www.dubai.ae.

    The departments will demonstrate the applications of several systems deployed by Dubai eGovernment to enable them to deliver services through multiple channels, including mDubai, the channel for mobile services, and AskDubai, the state-of-the-art contact centre.

    Dubai eGovernment’s Government Resources Planning System contributes in boosting performance of employees of 27 local departments

    Dubai eGovernment has announced that the Government Resources Planning (GRP) System has achieved significant success in 2009 in implementing initiatives and projects that were aimed at upgrading the level of the eServices being offered within various departments of Dubai Government. The GRP System provides an integrated system of services to manage all the financial, logistics and HR processes of 27 government departments in Dubai, covering a total of 65,500 employees.

    The Heads of eGovernment teams from various government departments in Dubai were urged to make optimum use of the online learning opportunities available on Dubai eGovernment’s portal (www.dubai.ae), at the recent annual meeting convened by Dubai eGovernment. This will further accelerate integration of their services with the eGovernment initiative. The department heads were also updated on the various eServices offered on the portal.
  • UAE: Health ministry plans to launch 12 new online projects next year

    The Ministry of Health will launch 12 new e-projects worth Dh185 million in May, as part of the e-government project, said Hassan Ahmed Al Elkeem, Undersecretary of the ministry.

    The ministry has adopted a comprehensive plan for switching over to e-services, so as to improve the quality of services and save time and effort.

    Details of medical fitness tests and online patient medical record systems are among a number of features unveiled by Dubai Health Authority (DHA) at GITEX on Sunday.

    The website, www.dha.gov.ae, has been redesigned keeping the e-government requirements in focus.

    The main website has 12 sub-sites linked to it including Dubai Hospital, Rashid Hospital, Al Wasl Hospital, DHA Medical Education and DHA Health Regulation.

    The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries joined the group of leading ministries in the UAE to implement an intranet system that would see services provided in an efficient manner through effective communication between the different departments and regions of the Ministry.

    Vereinigte Arabische Emirate auf dem Weg ins 3G-Zeitalter

    Am persischen Golf sind nun die ersten Hotspots, die drahtlosen Zugang zum Internet ermöglichen, in Betrieb genommen worden. Betreiber ist der ISP Emirates and Multimedia (EIM), eine Tochter des arabischen Telekomproviders Etisalat. User können sich in einem Umkreis von 100 Metern per User-Name und Passwort in das Internet einwählen. Zu Beginn sollen die Hotspots vor allem auf Flughäfen, in Shopping Malls, Hotels und Konferenzzentren in den Emiraten Abu Dhabi, Dubai und Sharjah etabliert werden.

  • UAE: ICDL GCC Foundation lauds Abu Dhabi Executive Council's initiative to adopt the ICDL standard

    ICDL GCC Foundation, the governing body and certification authority of the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) programme in the Gulf States, has announced that it will grant all the necessary support to the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.

    In order to ensure the success of its initiative to train and test UAE Nationals and non Nationals employed by the Abu Dhabi government on the ICDL certification program. ICDL GCC Foundation has also lauded the Abu Dhabi Government initiative announced recently.

  • UAE: ICDL seeks to build up computer skills

    Governments in the Middle East are investing heavily in implementing e-government services. However, adoption of these systems is being held back by low internet penetration rates and poor IT skills in the region. To combat the skills problem, governments are investing in IT training for their populations based on ICDL (International Computer Driving License) standards.

    Dubai has long been considered as one of the region’s leaders in digital government and ICDL training. To date, the emirate’s e-government departments, through the Dubai eGovernment platform, are delivering no less than 1,500 e-services, of which around 1,200 of these are transactional services while the rest are informational services.

  • UAE: ID authority plans to open more centres

    The Emirates Identity Authority will open more registration centres throughout the UAE next month as part of a new three-year strategy, said a senior official.

    Darwish Al Zarouni, Director General of EIDA, said the new centres will be added to the present seven.

  • UAE: Implementation of business process automation at DED with Internal Workflow Project

    The Department of Economic Development (DED) announced that it had taken significant steps towards full-fledged e-Government procedures, with the complete automation of two of its internal business processes.

    Entitled, 'DED Internal Workflow Project,' the initiative is expected to lead to the total automation of all internal processes at the Department, thereby enabling versatile communication with all internal systems and facilitating the DED in offering value-added services to all its stakeholders. The two processes that were completely automated in the first phase included the suggestion schemes and the IT help desk.

  • UAE: Implementation of eProject system reviewed

    UAE Ministry of Finance and Industry (MoFI)’s e-government team has discussed the latest developments in the implementation plan of e-project system. MoPW has been assigned by the e-Government Executive Committee to oversee the project.

    Held in the Ministry of Public Works headquarter, the meeting was attended by Dr. Emir Mavani, the Federal e-Government Programme Director at MoFI, and Mr. Ahmed Bin Ghannam, eGov Programme Manager in Etisalat’s one-stop e-powerhouse business unit eCompany which is the technical partner of Federal e-government for all the ICT needs of the project.

  • UAE: Implementation of MOAF eGovernment project well on track

    The Federal eGovernment team today discussed the latest developments in the implementation plan and the successful progress of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MOAF) eGovernment project.

    The progress on the implementation was discussed with H.E. Saeed Bin Mohammad Al Ragabani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries along with H.E Abdulla Aleter, Assistant Undersecretary for Human Resource, Finance and Information Technology at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The meeting was attended by Dr. Emir Mavani, the Federal e-Government Programme Director and other officials.

    PC penetration in the Arab world is poised to record a rapid increase within the next few years, with many of the countries crossing penetration levels of 20 per cent. This augurs well for the various e-governance projects launched by the different governments in the Arab countries, according to Salem Al Shair, Director eServices, Dubai eGovernment.

    By the year 2005, the UAE will have the highest Internet penetration of the region at 38 per cent. At that time there will be 1,346,000 million Internet users in the country.
  • UAE: Individual security to be protected by the Population Register and ID Law

    The new law giving the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) responsibility for the introduction of a modern Population Register and ID Card system for all citizens and residents of the UAE has been proclaimed.

    The new law will further the country's efforts towards the provision of a secure environment for citizens and expatriate residents of the UAE. It is designed to keep personal identities secure from fraudulent or unauthorized use.

  • UAE: Information Technology Governance ‘Imperative’ to Achieve Organisational Goals

    Key decision-makers in the government need to support and take ownership of Information Technology systems as it plays a crucial role in extending good governance and progress, a top Dubai bureaucrat said 
on Wednesday.

    Speaking at a conference organised by the Information Technology Governance Assurance Forum, Yasser Abdullah Amiri, director-general of financial audit department of the government of Dubai and the chairman of the forum, said that it is imperative for the respective government departments to align their structure and processes in support of IT initiatives to achieve organisational goals.

  • UAE: Internal Workflow Project leads to automation

    Dubai’s Department of Economic Development (DED) has announced that it will automate two of its internal business processes, a suggestion scheme and the agency’s IT help desk.

    This move is part of a wider internal workflow project that ultimately aims to automate all of DED’s internal processes.

    “This initiative has been launched to streamline and automate our internal processes first, before building on our strengths to extend automated services to our external stakeholders,” explains Sultan Lootah, IT Director, DED.

  • UAE: Intranet set up to issue group visas

    The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has set up an intranet system to fast track the process of issuing group visas to companies, said a senior official yesterday.

    Ahmed Kajoor, Assistant Undersecretary of the ministry, said the system which will be launched within a week or two will stop misplacement of applications for group visas and facilitate processing and controlling of visas.

  • UAE: iPhone application developed by RTA female employees released

    Roads & Transport Authority - Manal Khalid: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has released its first e-service compatible with the smart phone "iPhone" in Gitex 2010 whereby users can obtain all information related to the Metro stations on the Red Line, journeys, Metro Offence Code and various types of Nol cards.

    Commenting on the new e-service, the CEO of Corporate Technical Support Services Sector Abdullah Al Madani said: "A team of RTA Information Technology Department has been developing this service internally with the aim of offering improved service, providing handy information about the Metro and Nol cards, which are the main inquired after services, to customers and enabling them open new information channels".
