  • UAE: e-govt transition plan to be discussed

    The UAE e-Government Steering Committee is to meet tomorrow to finalise the e-Government strategy and transition plan with a view to accelerating full implementation of the overall project. The meeting will be hosted by the UAE Ministry of Finance and Industry, Dr Mohamed Khalfan bin Kharbash, and will be attended senior government officials working on the project.
  • UAE: e-health record system to ensure easier access

    An electronic health record system will soon be set up in Dubai as an upgrade of Dubai Health Authority's clinical computing system.

    Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in November 2007 the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) yesterday announced the signing of a contract affiliation agreement with the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) in this regard.

    The electronic record system will have numerous advantages for both patients and healthcare providers, including easier access to records for medical staff around the emirate.

  • UAE: e-libraries to change the face of health care

    Imagine being able to monitor the healing of your foot ulcer using the camera on your mobile phone without needing to visit the doctor.

    In the not too distant future, this is how people will interact with their doctors and hospitals using technology, or e-Health, to access health care.

    In a matter of months the UAE, too, will be in line with e-Health practices, Dr Ameen Al Amiri, CEO for Medical Practice and Licence at the Ministry of Health, said.

  • UAE: E-registration system for bank guarantees

    The UAE Ministry of Finance and Industry has announced plans to launch an e-registration system as early as May 1.

    The announcement came during a seminar organised at the ministry in Dubai.

  • UAE: e-Revolution in the Making

    Dubai is at the forefront of the world’s e-revolution, led primarily by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Initiatives such as the Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Technology Park have directly contributed to developing information and technology in the emirate. “Dubai Internet City has played a crucial role in developing the region’s ICT (Information and Communications Technology) industry,” says Malek Al Malek, Executive Director of Dubai Internet City.

  • UAE: E-service for labour permit processing

    The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has launched a new electronic work permit system.

    The facility is part of the ministry’s strategy to annually restructure its services. The new service is reserved for companies and establishments with less than 50 employees and will replace the services obtained through the ministry’s counters or ordinary post.

  • UAE: e-service portal of RAK govt launched

    RAK e-Government Authority (RAK-eGA) yesterday launched the new e-services portal of RAK Government (www.rak.ae) offering government-related services on-line to the public.

    The service was launched at a conference titled 'Ras Al Khaimah — The Future', held at Hilton Hotel here.

    The conference was inaugurated by Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

  • UAE: E-Services At Dubai Municipality Centre In Al Towar

    The Al Towar Centre of Dubai Municipality has introduced online services for its customers in a bid to reduce the number of visitors to the centre and accomplish a paper-less office concept.

    This was stated by Asma Al Jessmi, Head of DM Al Towar Centre, who noted that the move comes in line with the Municipality’s policy to facilitate e-Government transition and speed up procedures for the customers.

    For the past week, Dubai has been home to Gitex, the largest technology and electronics exhibition in the Middle East, a time when buyers and sellers alike are focused on the latest products and innovations to hit the marketplace.

    The Government of Dubai has used this setting to expound on its e-Services, detailing its departments and customer services which are available online.

  • UAE: E-services fail to click with public

    Dubai Government has admitted it believes not enough people are using its online services. Salem Khamis Al Shair, e-Services Director at Dubai Government, told IT Weekly he blames the problem on a combination of a lack of public awareness and public mistrust in conducting financial transactions online.

    The government has a deadline of 2007 for putting 90% of all government services online and for ensuring that 50% of all transactions carried out by the public are done online.

  • UAE: E-services on mobiles!

    Dubai e-Government became the first entity in the Middle East on Wednesday to launch a dedicated portal offering e-Services to users via hand-held mobile devices.

    The innovative 'mobile portal', accessible through Dubai e-Government portal www.dubai.ae, allows users to access information and carry out transactions instantly via hand-held mobile devices such as mobile phones and PDAs. The advanced technology used in developing the system detects if the user has logged on using a hand-held device and links him to the specifically designed mobile portal.

  • UAE: e-Services uptake strong, says Dubai Police

    Dubai Police expects to deliver over 90% of all its manually available services on-line by 2007, according to the department’s e-Services Programmer Ahmed Qaed Ahmed.

    As part of their efforts to expand the scope of e-services delivery, Ahmed says that so far over 185 different services have already gone live and are being provided to the citizens and residents of Dubai via number of customer touch points, including the Internet, kiosks and IVR. “Payments have also been made possible for customers who have a choice to pay using either their credit card or e-dhiram cards, which have been integrated with the departments e-government’s e-pay system,” he added.

  • UAE: E-tickets on offer for bus, Metro users

    Passengers using public transport facilities will be able to buy e-tickets in the near future.

    The e-tickets will be available for travel on public transport buses, the forthcoming Dubai Metro and water taxis.

  • UAE: e-TQM College integrates payment application with Dubai eGov't's ePay gatew

    e-TQM College, the leading provider of online courses in Total Quality Management (TQM) in the Arab world, announced the integration of its payment application with Dubai eGovernment's ePay gateway, at a joint press conference held today.

    Learners now have the option of using the e-Dirham service or a credit card to pay online for any of e-TQM College's online courses.

  • UAE: e-TQM launches website for Dubai Cares

    Individuals and corporations who wish to contribute to the Dubai Cares campaign can do so through a secure and reliable online donation facility set up by e-TQM College.

    The college hosted a fundraising event at their premises on Wednesday as part of a shared effort in supporting the Dubai Cares campaign. It aimed to contribute to the campaign by hosting the event and through donations raised by faculty, staff and students.

  • UAE: eCompany launches new BizDirect ePayment service

    Ahmad Abdulkarim Julfar, General Manager, eCompany eCompany has announced at GITEX the first phase roll out of the BizDirect ePayment service aimed at bringing together two or more parties to transact and facilitate direct debit payments by using their bank accounts. MashreqBank, Commercial Bank of Dubai & Emirates Bank International are the three banks taking part in this pilot phase. On the service provider side, Dubai eGovernment and Etisalat are key participants.

    eCompany will roll out the BizDirect ePayment service to various service providers who can be easily integrated into banks connected to eCompany’s network. The solution is based on eCompany’s proven and secure ePayment platform and facilitates direct debit using the standard Internet banking infrastructure of the banks.

  • UAE: eCompany participates in 12th GCC eGovernment Forum

    eCompany, the ICT arm of Etisalat participated in the 12th GCC eGovernment Forum organized by Datamatix which started yesterday in Dubai.

    The conference which runs untill May 24, is aimed at showcasing regional eGovernment developments and participants will have the opportunity to learn from successful practices via global case studies.

  • UAE: eEmployee evokes good response from government employees

    eEmployee, the initiative from Dubai eGovernment designed to upgrade computer skills of government employees through online and classroom training leading to the ICDL (International Computer Driving Licence) certification, has generated enthusiastic response from government employees from different departments.

    Recently, 30 employees from Dubai Awqaf Department, 22 from Dubai Justice Department and 10 from Dubai Civil Defence enrolled in the eEmployee programme through the portal www.eEmployee.ae.

    Dubai eGovernment has announced the launch of eEmployee, a new initiative designed to provide IT skills to government employees through online and classroom training leading to the ICDL (International Computer Driving Licence) certification. The programme aims to enhance the ability of government departments to deliver improved eServices to the public and the business community.
  • UAE: Efficient government means accountability: we’re getting it

    The establishment of the Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority (ADAA) is an important step towards strengthening public sector accountability and transparency.

    At the federal level, the UAE already has the State Audit Institution (SAI), which is an independent body that reports directly to the Federal National Council (FNC) and is responsible for the auditing and oversight of state funds and those of other specified public entities. But the establishment of the ADAA will complement and enhance that role at the local level in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. This is a measure worth emulating by the other Emirates.
