A survey just published on the quality and usage of public electronic services shows that almost 80% of users approve of the quality of on-line public services, and more than half are very satisfied with these services. Almost 80% of users indicate that they would recommend the services to other people. The most frequently cited benefits of using on line services are saving time (84%) and gaining flexibility (65%). The most important factors providing user satisfaction are ease of use (for citizens) and the speed of the web site service (for businesses). The study concludes that crucial elements for the success of on line government services are optimising workflows, simplifying processes, and improving the way information is re-used and shared amongst public authorities.

Europäische Studie zum E-Government erschienen

Eine Umfrage der Europäischen Union über die Qualität und die Nutzung elektronischer Behördendienste zeigt, dass fast 80 Prozent aller Nutzer mit der Qualität dieser Online-Dienste zufrieden sind, über die Hälfte ist sogar sehr zufrieden. Ebenfalls ca. 80 Prozent der Nutzer würden diese Dienste weiterempfehlen.

The Telecom Council of Ministers, held in Brussels on 20/11/2003 has endorsed the EU e-government priorities by adopting its conclusions on the Communication of the Commission on "The role of eGovernment for Europe's future".

The Council acknowledge the importance of e-government and the importance of the contribution of the public sector in achieving the Lisbon goals by facilitating and contributing to the European economic growth and innovation and the need to invest in the modernisation of public administrations, and in doing so, take full advantage of the use of information and communication technologies combined with organisational change and new skills.

Die Kommission hat heute das Ergebnis einer Umfrage über die Qualität und die Nutzung elektronischer Behördendienste veröffentlicht. Demnach sind fast 80 Prozent aller Nutzer zufrieden, gut 50 Prozent sogar sehr zufrieden, was die Qualität dieser Dienste anbelangt.

Erkki Liikanen, der für Unternehmen und Informationsgesellschaft zuständige Kommissar bemerkte hierzu: „Die Untersuchung gibt einen guten Einblick in die Nutzung und die Vorteile des eGovernment. Darüber hinaus liefert sie denjenigen Behörden gute Anhaltspunkte, die die Qualität und die Einrichtung ihrer eigenen Online-Dienste verbessern wollen."

Das europäische Parlament hat eine Empfehlung des Abgeordneten Carlos Coelho an den EU-Ministerrat verabschiedet, in der es sich besorgt über den Datenschutz durch den Ausbau des Schengener Informationssystems (SIS II) äußert. Coelho, Berichterstatter des Ausschusses für die Freiheiten und Rechte der Bürger, Justiz und innere Angelegenheiten, hatte in seinem Bericht unter anderem darauf hingewiesen, dass das Informationssystem "extrem heikle" persönliche Daten enthält.
