On July 11, 2017, Rwanda was ranked among top 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa that are on progress towards attaining the UN-backed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 while, on July 13, 2017, the country received the 'Top Ten Tech Solutions Award' for innovation of Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS). As posted on the Ministry of Justice website, this award is typically given to a high-performing court that engages many tools, especially ICT, to operate efficiently and effectively in conducting the business of the judiciary.

Last week’s “Transform Africa Summit,” held in Kigali, pledged to bolster the ICT sector whose aim is to achieve ‘smart cities’ across the continent.

On this note, President Paul Kagame, in his speech, pointed out two fundamental things, among others: the need for political will to enable the implementation of digital integration and rollout of initiatives; and the need to engage in Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to invest in ICT projects.

Rwanda has announced plans to digitize education system to further innovation, social inclusion, job creation, education quality and national competitiveness, the education minister said Wednesday.

Musafiri Papias Malimba told reporters that the country entered an agreement with Microsoft Corporation to digitize Rwanda education through a "smart-classroom" project.

The Government of Rwanda and Mastercard will work together on developing digital platforms to meet the needs of the country’s citizens and work towards Rwanda’s goal of promoting a cashless society.

According to FinScope 2016, 68% of adults in Rwanda have/use formal financial products/ services.

A new continental report has ranked Rwanda third on the continent as far as science, technology and innovation (STI) capacity is concerned.

The Africa Capacity Report is the work of the Africa Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), a continental organisation established by African Governments and their development partners to help build sustainable human and institutional capacity for good governance and development management.
