They are not using the national backbone infrastructure that government has laid in some parts of the country because its quality is in question.

Ugandans want government and telecommunication companies to develop measures to bring down the cost of internet services to support innovations in ICT and other internet-powered projects in various fields of the economy.

It has emerged that some telecommunication companies, the leading internet service providers in the country, are using their independent internet infrastructure and while others pay private internet firms to deliver it to Ugandans.

Young ICT innovators fro Uganda will now benefit highly from Uganda's Science fund that has for ages been perceived as a fund be restricted to agro, bio and chemical science innovations.

This was said by Hon Frank Tumwebaze, Minister of ICT and National Guidance at the inaugural stakeholders' dialogue held on July 06, 2017, Sheraton Hotel, Kampala.

The government is working around the clock to set up an enabling environment for e-commerce.

Mr Peter Kahigi, the director for e-commerce services at the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U), has said the government is working around the clock to ensure there are rules and regulations to govern the e-commerce services in the country.

People who want to visit Uganda for business or pleasure can now apply for visas and permits online, thanks to the introduction of e-visa system.

The new system, which started functioning this financial year, eliminates earlier bureaucratic procedures which were slow and tedious.

In theMinisterial Policy Statement for FY 2014/15 Uganda’s ICT sector share in 2014 stood at 6.0% and employed over one million people. World Bank data placed exports of ICT services in 2013 at 400 million USD, forming 17% of total service exports. IT services alone were estimated to represent 2.8% of Uganda’s services exports, with a total value of US $2 billion in 2012. These statistics prompted several initiatives of an investment & developmental nature in the ICT sector from players both local and international.
