The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has launched the Electronic Government Procurement system (EGP), aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability/value for money and effectiveness.

During the launch at the UCAA head offices in Entebbe on Monday, the acting Director General UCAA, Mr Fred Bamwesigye, said that embracing new technology innovations is well in line with the Authority's core values.

Delivering a minimum of 5Mbps

Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) through the Rural Communications Development Fund (RCDF) has launched a Wi-Fi hotspot project covering five border posts across the country.

The project was initially annouced early this year, as is to be implemented by Blue Crane Communications Limited, an Internet Service Provider, will provide broadband services at the five border posts of Mutukula (Kyotera); Vurra (Arua); Malaba (Tororo); Elegu (Amuru); Bunagana (Kisoro).

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) through its projects department called the Rural Communications Development Fund (RCDF) has launched a call for business plan proposals under a grant to cater for public WiFi hotspots at five border points across the country.

In line with the RCDF III program thematic area of Broadband Connectivity and Access, UCC has set aside these funds for the financial year 2019/20 to be utilized under a collaborative grant framework between UCC/RCDF and a suitable partner to establish and operate five public WiFi hotspots.

The World Bank said in a report Wednesday that digital technologies are critical in reviving Uganda’s economy, which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The international finance institution said in the latest edition of the Uganda Economic Update that the country’s economy this year is projected to grow between 0.4 to 1.7 percent.

When Uganda announced a partial lockdown and the closing of schools and learning institutions due to COVID-19, avid promoters of information and communications technology (ICT), virtual and online-based learning saw it as a golden opportunity that would change the practice of online learning in higher education.

The concept of online or blended learning has been on the higher education agenda for close to two decades. There have been varying interventions from a range of sources: bilateral and multilateral agencies and US foundations.
