The Government is intent on creating conditions for the Internet to flourish in the country, but it has to happen under State management, adhere to the law, international agreements and global trends, Deputy PM Vũ Đức Đam told the parliament yesterday.

He was speaking during a National Assembly discussion on State management of the press and social media, where issues of controlling ‘toxic’ and inappropriate content as well as progress on e-government were discussed.

The Việt Nam Internet Forum 2017 (VIF17) will take place at the Hà Nội Museum on November 27-28.

VIF17, themed ‘Digital For Good’, will discuss the contribution of the internet to a creative, sustainable and open society through e-governance, open data, smart cities and social network development.

Many National Assembly (NA) deputies have shared the views that heads of State agencies should take higher responsibility in staff reduction on the sidelines of their discussions on law enforcement in the reform of State administrative apparatus for 2011-2016 as part of the fourth sitting of the 14th NA in Hanoi on October 30.

Nguyen Van Chien, a deputy from Hanoi, said that to streamline administrative procedures and shrink staff more drastically between now and 2020, it is a must for agency heads to set forth comprehensive measures to assign tasks to agencies in localities.

Fifteen teams from around the world were selected to pitch their smart cities solutions for Việt Nam at the Smart City Innovation Challenge (SCIC) Demo Day in Hà Nội yesterday.

The Smart City Innovation Challenge, launched in July this year, sought smart city solutions in 12 key focus areas identified by the city governments and the smart city steering committees of Việt Nam.

Chairman of Hà Nội People’s Committee, Nguyễn Đức Chung, on Tuesday worked with the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO) to turn the capital into a smart city.

Hà Nội has been working towards its smart city initiative since 2014.
