The Passport Department has plans to switch completely to electronic work from the traditional paperwork.

Speaking to the local media at the opening of new lounges for issuing and renewing Saudi passports at the new building in Riyadh, Maj. Gen. Suleiman Al-Yahya, director general of the Passport Department, said: “All departments will switch to electronic processing. This means that employees will no longer handle transactions. Employees will only direct the customers concerning the procedures and ensure that they are carried out correctly.”

The Smart Provinces Summit was held on February 25th and 26th at the Hotel Al Khozama, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with more than 120 participants both local and global companies took place with detailed descriptive presentations of the future to come.

Riyadh Passport Department deployed Wednesday two mobile units offering e-services at two major locations.

One was in King Khaled University Hospital at King Saud University’s main campus and the other at King Saud Medical Complex (formerly Al-Shumaisy Hospital) in southeast central part of the capital.

Under the guidance of Prince Mohammed bin Naif, second deputy premier and interior minister, government departments have been advised to transfer services to an electronic platform in order to facilitate and ease procedures for citizens and residents to handle various transactions.

The government plans to expand these e-government services to complement its broader initiatives and projects aimed at achieving sustainable growth and development.

The Riyadh Municipality has upgraded its e-services by utilizing its modern infrastructure, including ICT for facilitating access to municipal services.

It is a strategic move for the current year in coordination with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, an official at the municipality.
