A showcase on 5G is being held by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam(AITI) at their booth at the Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2021 until June 20 from 9am to 6pm.

The showcase is part of efforts to raise awareness on 5G’s economic impact and opportunity with the emergence of various 5G applications. According to AITI, the showcase will demonstrate the three characteristics of 5G:

As with the rise of any technology and its use for industrial development, there are bound to be misapplications and misuse, said Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof.

“The utilisation of big data presents cybersecurity threats and invasion of privacy, as well as the rise of Deep Fakes, posing great threats to society in general. From policy and regulatory perspectives, we are now working on the necessary legal frameworks to address these concerns. This includes the Cyber Security Order to ensure the protection of our Critical Information Infrastructures (CII), as well as the Personal Data Protection Order to prevent unauthorised and unconsented sharing of personal data and information,” he added.

The E-Government National Centre (EGNC) is implementing the National Information Hub (NIH) to serve as a platform for information integration among government agencies in support of the sharing information initiative. Through the NIH’s Single Repository, common and uncommon data can be obtained from trusted sources and supported by back-end system of government departments or agencies in need. The NIH project was among the initiatives under the EGNC highlighted during a working visit by Legislative Council (LegCo) members to the centre yesterday.

Advancing as a Smart Nation requires undertaking a holistic and comprehensive exercise of digital transformation, which is where the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025 comes in, as a digital economy means more than just connectivity.

This was said by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, who delivered a speech on behalf of Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, during the Borneo Bulletin Yearbook (BBYB) Networking Session yesterday.
