Besides training digital talent, a stimulant programme also supports MSMEs in improving digital skills throughout their organisation.

This was disclosed by Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G Plate, who said the partnership is targeted to produce human resources with intermediate digital skills, including coding, big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, and metaverse.

Indonesia’s digital economy is undergoing dramatic growth, thanks largely to accelerated deployment of digital technologies and widespread adoption of popular online platforms such as Tokopedia and GoJek.

Indonesia has already become Southeast Asia’s largest digital economy by gross merchandise value (GMV), with Google estimating Indonesia’s vibrant digital economy to more than triple in size to US$146 billion by 2025, reflecting the government’s goals for a transition toward a digital-first nation.

Tangerang has been appointed as the pilot project location for the implementation of an unmanned electric car. This trial is a continuation of the strategic partnership of the two companies related to urban planning management and smart city development.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the unmanned electric car was one of the breakthroughs to reduce carbon emissions.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics is supporting the development of the digital community in the Southeast Asia region by implementing four aspects of inclusive digital transformation acceleration.

"In supporting the realization of the ASEAN digital community, the Indonesian government is pushing four aspects of digital transformation acceleration, starting from strategic planning, connectivity, data utilization, to foreign cooperation," Communication and Informatics Minister's Special Staff for Digital and Human Resources Dedy Permadi stated in a press release on Saturday.

As the fourth-most populous country globally with a large working-age population, Indonesia has tremendous potential to gain from the development of the digital economy. Enhancing the digital literacy of its citizens and strengthening the digital skills of its labour are two pillars to enable the country to achieve more inclusive digital transformation. This is the key message of a diagnostic report titled ‘Digital Skills Landscape in Indonesia’ and a strategy primer titled ‘Accelerating Digital Skills Development in Indonesia’. These two documents were recently released and jointly prepared by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP); the SMERU Research Institute; Indonesia and the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
