The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) has assisted 251 Indonesian districts and cities in realizing smart city governance, which has played a significant role in the country's successful digital transformation.
The program implemented since 2017 has boosted the capacity of the smart city governance system, which seeks to make public services more efficient.

Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said here Tuesday that good internet speed is key for bringing about digital transformation in Indonesia.
"If we cannot increase internet speed, do not expect we can go through this digital transformation well," he added.
In fact, the main challenge is internet speed, which is not yet optimal, Setiadi underlined.

The Jakarta Smart City BLUD Management Unit (JSC) under Jakarta Communications, Informatics and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik), held the Jakarta Smart City Forum 2023 with the theme 'Transforming Jakarta into a Smart City on a Global Scale' at Ayana Midplaza Jakarta, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (11/ 14).
This event was held to celebrate innovation and strengthen collaboration networks in building a smart city ecosystem.

Various studies and research have been emphasizing the important role of digital transformation in the many aspects of a nation's life, ranging from government and bureaucracy to socio-cultural, to economic aspects. Digital transformation in Indonesia has entered a new era as Huawei supports the government of Surakarta (Kota Solo) in rolling out a Giga City connectivity technology pilot model to deliver digital experiences as a reference for future ICT infrastructures.
The designation of Surakarta (also known as Kota Solo) as Indonesia's inaugural Giga City involved the formalization of agreements through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). These pivotal agreements were signed on Tuesday, (22/8), at Solo Technopark, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between Huawei and the Surakarta government that symbolizes the convergence of technological expertise and government support, heralding a new era of development and progress of a future city.
