ELECTRONIC watchdogs are to guard Bahrain's e-government network against computer viruses. The Central Informatics Organisation (CIO), which is responsible for regulating the Bahrain government's information technology (IT) systems, signed an agreement yesterday with Trend Micro, one of the world's leading Internet security providers.

E-government transformation in Bahrain will come under focus at a major conference at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa tomorrow .

N e-government centre, the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa, is to be established in Bahrain, it was revealed yesterday.

The centre, designed to help governments across the GCC establish and roll out e-government projects, is being created jointly by the Central Informatics Organisation (CIO), IBM and Gulf Business Machines (GBM).

BAHRAIN is well-positioned to switch over to the digital economy, Microsoft's Solutions Partner Account Manager for North Gulf (Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait), Monzer Tohme, has said, writes Mehmood Rafique.

He told the Tribune that Bahrain has taken various steps to embrace e-government. "A lot of things are happening, paving the way for digital economy or e-government. Since this requires legislation and tackling of other issues, it would be appropriate that Government officials announce the exact timeframe," he said.

Easier administration and collaboration assured among departments

Bahrain has successfully implemented the first phase of a collaborative e-government project with Microsoft, paving the way for the government's full use of a new active directory based on the MS Windows 2003 server.
