The whole government has switched to the Windows 2003 server operating system, which allows for easier administration and collaboration across departments. The move follows the signing of a Government Security Program (GSP) with Microsoft Corporation in January. The agreement was signed by Central Informatics Organisation (CIO) president Shaikh Mohammed bin Ateyattala Al Khalifa and Microsoft chairman and chief software architect Bill Gates.
Since then, the CIO has successfully implemented a new active directory, based on the Microsoft Windows 2003 server, which creates a single information bank of all resources on the Government Data Network. This results in lower IT management costs, easier administration and better security through standardisation of resources and management.
