Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology (SCICT), His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, chaired SCICT’s 14th meeting, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa. The meeting  reviewed  the shift towards digital economy as a national strategy adopted the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), which was commissioned to prepare a study on this important field and future directions for its development through adopting the best practices and seeking international expertise.<

The Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) has unveiled major achievements in implementing its 2019 eGovernment Strategy, most notably the reengineering of 40 eServices, which allowed for an 88 per cent reduction in the costs of providing the government services, and a 74 per cent reduction in processing times. Across all channels, iGA eServices generated BD156 million through more than 1.6m transactions during the year. iGA Chief Executive Mohammed Ali AlQaed announced the results at a press conference yesterday detailing the achievements of the 2019 eGovernment Strategy.

A system to monitor municipal violations and provide a comprehensive database of the offences was launched yesterday.

Through a single electronic portal and electronic devices, it will also help check the status of existing violations and the whereabouts of inspectors.

The Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) has announced the launch of its eWallet, a new online payment method for government eServices.

The eWallet is being made available in cooperation with The BENEFIT Company, which runs the Credit Reference Bureau network and provides the electronic funds transfer system between banks, and CrediMax,  a pioneer in credit card and payment gateways.

When BlackBerry released its first smartphones back in 2002, all it offered was just enough juice in the battery to make calls for up to 30 minutes a day.
