The introduction of electric buses is expected to enhance mobility while reducing the city’s carbon footprint.

Tata Motors, one of the biggest players in the commercial vehicle industry, has supplied Ultra EV air-conditioned electric buses to Jammu Smart City Limited through its subsidiary, TML Smart City Mobility Solutions (J&K) Pvt Ltd. This decision was taken to achieve complete electrical public transportation in Jammu. These electric buses, made in India with modern technology offer emission-free transportation within the city.

A senior Smart City official said that on a daily basis, over 900 people use the free public Wi-Fi service offered by the Smart City Mission at important places across Panaji.

Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd said that it has installed 500 access points for public Wi-Fi. These locations include maximum footfall areas like marketplaces, road stretches, key junctions, the vicinity of government offices, and recreation spots such as parks, lakes, educational institutes, and religious places.

The advanced electric buses offer safe, noiseless and sustainable travel, for a comfortable and convenient experience

Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, announced that it has delivered state-of-the-art Ultra EV air-conditioned electric buses to Jammu Smart City Limited through TML Smart City Mobility Solutions (J&K) Pvt Ltd, a Tata Motors Group company. The initiative led by the Housing and Urban Development Department of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, is aimed at establishing an environmentally sustainable public transportation system in Jammu. These emission-free Tata Motors electric buses are manufactured in India using cutting-edge technology, feature advanced amenities and are powered by state-of-the-art electric power systems. Its design focusses on safety, comfort and convenience, offering Jammu residents reliable and zero-emission intra-city commuting solutions. The delivery of the electric buses is a part of its larger order to supply, maintain and operate 100 electric buses in Srinagar and 100 electric buses in Jammu, for a period 12-years for Jammu and Srinagar Smart City projects.

The National Democratic Alliance government's flagship Smart Cities Mission (SCM) launched in 2015 is nearing its second deadline of June 2024. Aimed to improve the quality of life in urban India through the application of smart solutions, SCM has so far achieved a completion rate of 83%. Of the total ₹86,850 crore allocated over eight years by the Union and respective state governments, ₹72,571 crore has already been utilised by the participating cities.
