From purchasing tickets online to live bus navigation, passengers can now enjoy smooth electric bus travel with “Chalo” mobile application launched under the Smart City project.

To streamline the entire bus travel experience, Chalo mobile app allows passengers to buy bus tickets and pass through e-wallet.

Besides, through this mobile application passengers will be able to track the movement of e-buses.

Chief minister M K Stalin on Friday virtually inaugurated a couple of completed smart city projects - a knowledge centre cum library on Addis Street, experience centre at Ukkadam Periyakulam and a larger-than-life Thiruvalluvar statue at Kurichi lake - in the city.

While the knowledge centre was built at a cost of 2.5 crore, the experience centre was set up with an outlay of 2.98 crore.

In a significant stride towards urban modernization, Srinagar is poised to attain the coveted status of a Smart City by June 2024. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has sanctioned a total of 125 projects, amounting to a staggering Rs 930 crore, under the Smart City Mission, ushering in a new era of technological advancement and sustainable urban development for the capital city.

The ambitious initiative, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents and ensuring efficient urban governance, has witnessed substantial progress. Several crucial projects have already been completed, demonstrating the commitment of the authorities to transform Srinagar into a model smart city.

The Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL), tasked with operating the ambitious new transport service plan under the ‘Smart City Mission’ finds itself in the messy quagmire that Panaji’s roads currently are and is unlikely to take off a week before Republic Day on January 19.

The 48 electric buses have already arrived and are in the KTC’s possession, but the State-owned public transporter has several logistical issues to put in place before it is ready to operate the service.
