In a significant stride towards urban modernization, Srinagar is poised to attain the coveted status of a Smart City by June 2024. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has sanctioned a total of 125 projects, amounting to a staggering Rs 930 crore, under the Smart City Mission, ushering in a new era of technological advancement and sustainable urban development for the capital city.

The ambitious initiative, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents and ensuring efficient urban governance, has witnessed substantial progress. Several crucial projects have already been completed, demonstrating the commitment of the authorities to transform Srinagar into a model smart city.

Among the completed projects is the redevelopment of Lal Chowk Square, a central location in Srinagar, which now boasts modern infrastructure and amenities. The revamping of the riverfront has added a touch of aesthetic brilliance to the cityscape, providing residents with recreational spaces and scenic spots.

The Smart City Mission for Srinagar encompasses a wide range of initiatives, from infrastructure development to technology integration. The aim is to create a city that not only meets the demands of its residents but also embraces innovation for sustainable growth.

Numerous other projects are in various stages of completion, including the installation of smart street lighting, establishment of integrated traffic management systems, and the introduction of e-governance solutions for better civic services.
