Since 15 April 2010, the Ministry of Health of the Spanish Region of Castile and León has made it possible for citizens to book online for medical consultations in 91 primary healthcare centres of the region, either via the Internet or by sending an SMS.

The aim is to simplify and to lighten the workload of the staff of the healthcare centres; likewise, the booking of healthcare appointments becomes easier and more accessible for patients, with the availability of the service 24 hours, 7 days a week.

For the first time in the Spanish Autonomous Community of Catalonia, over 1.000 eGovernment services for both citizens and companies can be found on a single website; the Virtual Procedures Office (VPO).

The VPO was launched by the Government of Catalonia on 11 January 2010. Among the 1.000 procedures available through the virtual office, 160 can be entirely carried out online. This number is planned to increase in the future.

www.060.es is the first portal to give unified electronic access to Spain's public services, regardless of which administration runs them, according to the EU's Epractice News. The new version will enable users to personalize this facility and adapt it to their own needs. Of the 565 services that can now be reached via the site, 325 are provided by the various departments of the General State Administration, 181 by Spain's autonomous communities and 23 by local authorities.

Minister of Public Administration Elena Salgado presented the enhanced version of the portal when she opened the tenth edition of Tecnimap, Spain's eGovernment fair.

Das typisch-weiße, andalusische Dorf ist "Europas Geburtsort der Aktiven Teledemokratie", seit am 28. Juli 2001 der damalige EU-Kommissionschef Romano Prodi diesen Titel verlieh.

Spain’s Interior Ministry announced it has distributed 1.2 million chip-based national ID cards and expects to issue at least 800,000 more by the end of the year. Eventually, more than 30 million Spaniards will carry them.

ID cards have been a fixture in Spain for more than 50 years. But the current program, called DNI-e, for Documento Nacional de Identificación electrónica, opens up the possibility for new applications.
