Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA, NYSE: ALA) has announced that the city government of Torrent, Spain, has awarded its business partner NextiraOne a contract to build a citywide voice and data communications network based on the Alcatel Omni family of voice and data communications products. This latest generation of technology, capable of sending data at Gigabit speeds, will give the city government of Torrent a secure network with ease of operation, manageability, enhanced capacity for growth, as well as significant cost-savings.
The Torrent government's primary goal for the new network and e-Government efforts is to improve the level of service for its citizens. This solution will also benefit city employees, by offering workers in metropolitan buildings access to all information technology (IT) resources. The network will enable Torrent to prioritize critical applications and traffic on the network for better performance of city government operations.
"In our duty to better serve our citizens, we looked for a communications network with advanced technology that would allow us to facilitate access to all Town Hall services," said José Bresó, an official with the Torrent Town Hall. "After evaluating different solutions, we chose Alcatel for its strong voice and data integration and the flexibility of adding new equipment."
The Alcatel voice and data solution, offered by NextiraOne, will be the basis of a network that links four official city buildings including the police department, the culture house, the social services and the tax collector's office. The network infrastructure is based on Alcatel's OmniCore and Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 products.
The new network and e-Government infrastructure will allow the Torrent Town Hall to reduce phone costs through the connection of all official buildings and to deliver better internal communications.
