  • Singapore unveils e-government masterplan

    Singapore today launched its next e-government masterplan. eGov2015 seeks to bring integration of systems, processes and service delivery from within the Government to beyond the Government.

    The vision of eGov 2015 is to be a Collaborative Government that Co-creates and Connects with our People. The masterplan will guide government agencies in the implementation of new ICT programmes in the next five years.

    Developed with inputs from the people, private and public sectors, eGov2015 builds on the success of previous e-Government plans. Today, Singapore is recognized by international benchmarking studies such as the World Economic Forum’s Global IT Report and the Waseda University e-Government Ranking. Singapore’s eGovernment projects have also been conferred international awards which includes the Stockholm Challenge Award and the UN Public Service Award. More importantly, citizens and businesses have embraced e-government, with 84 per cent of citizens having transacted electronically with the Government in 2010.

Launched in 2003, Singapore Personal Access (SingPass) is a gateway to over 200 e-services offered by more than 60 government agencies, enabling users to only have to remember one password when connecting and transacting with the Government.     Days after a non-governmental organisation filed criminal charges against Indonesia’s State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno for authorising Telkom to build a data centre in Singapore, the minister said the data centre “will not host” Indonesian government data.

    Ms Soemarno, who invited top executives from state firms, including Telkom, to an informal breaking of fast at her residence in South Jakarta, said Telkom’s data centre, which is being built with Singtel, was purely to tap Singapore’s potential market.

    The agreement was signed Tuesday at the sidelines of Oman's leading IT and Telecom Show, COMEX 2014 by Hamad Khamis Al Amri, Undersecretary of Oman's Manpower Ministry, ITA chief executive officer Dr Salim Al Ruzaiqi and Group International group director Tan Lark Yang.

    Singapore and India plan to partner and share knowledge on how to build successful new cities using technology and data, following a recent visit by Singapore’s foreign minister. India’s Budget has just committed to spend US$1.2bn on building 100 new smart cities across the country.

    The partnership will focus on water and port management, and infrastructure development, K Shanmugam, Singapore’s foreign minister, has told India’s regional press.

    Singapore and the Chinese city of Shenzhen have pushed forward with several smart city initiatives that include the launch of an Asian SME (small and midsize enterprise) hub to connect businesses and facilitate transactions between Asean and China.   • Singapore, South Korea to boost infocomm tech

    The Republic of Singapore and the Republic of Korea have agreed to cooperate on e-government to boost infocomm technology between the two countries and have signed a MoU (memorandum of understanding) to that effect. The MoU seeks to increase opportunities for e-Government collaboration between Singapore and South Korea.

    Elevating bilateral relations between the two countries up a step, the MoU was sealed Kim Seang-Tae, president, national information society agency, Republic of Korea and RADM(NS) Ronnie Tay, CEO, infocomm development authority of Singapore.

  • Singapore, UAE sign agreement on ICT collaboration

    The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and Telecommunications and Regulatory Authority of the UAE (TRA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will see greater collaboration in the field of telecommunications and ICT in the public and private sectors.

    According to an official statement from IDA Singapore, the MOU will further promote knowledge sharing of ICT in government and economic sectors for trade, investment, business and technology ventures between UAE and Singapore’s industries. In particular, the coordination of Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network is one key area of ICT adoption between IDA Singapore and TRA.
