  • Singapore still most innovative in Asia: report

    A skilled workforce, a high-quality public service and a leading e-government framework helped Singapore retain its top position as Asia's most innovative country for the second year.

    Two other key factors worked in the republic's favor: the ease of starting a business, and the high quality of trade and transport infrastructure.

    This was according to the Global Innovation Index 2012, which was released yesterday.

  • Singapore Takes New Step Toward E-Government

    Singapore will give all citizens, foreign residents and businesses an e-mail address to receive bills and other correspondence from the government, officials said on Tuesday.

    Called “OneInbox,” the service will be launched in 2012 in the high-tech city-state, which now has five million residents who enjoy nearly universal computer access.

    Recipients can opt to get SMS alerts when a message is sent.

    However, the authors of the report noted that “there always remains more to be done”, such as in preventing the spread of Covid-19 among the migrant worker population.

    The demand for hospital beds in Singapore is growing faster than the supply, so the government prototyped a telehealth system with a small group of people. Patients took basic healthcare measurements, like blood pressure and heart rate, at home and remotely shared that with their doctors or caregivers.

    Singapore has inked a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a Russian state on infocomm, Singapore's pro-enterprise agency said on Monday.

    The Republic of Tatarstan (Tatarstan) will be a partner of Singapore's company IDA International in its eGovernment projects, according to a statement by International Enterprise Singapore.

  • Singapore To Advise Kuwait On IT And e-Government Matters

    Singapore and Kuwait Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will pave the way for this high-tech island state to serve as an adviser to Kuwait on information technology (IT) and e-government matters.

    Tuesday's MoU was the second on e-government matters between both countries after the one signed a year ago under which Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore had developed a blueprint for the establishment of a new IT entity and e-government for Kuwait.

These include the use of ICT in government and various economic sectors such as education, finance, healthcare and tourism, and promoting exchanges on the use of ICT by the government and private sectors.

  • Singapore to export government expertise

    Singapore said Wednesday it will share the city-state's expertise with interested foreign governments in areas such as airport management, education systems and homeland security through a newly formed company.

    The not-for-profit Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) will be the main vehicle for the city-state's public sector to share its experiences and expertise, a joint statement by the foreign and trade ministries said.

It is going to have five residential districts with 42000 homes, and help to reduce carbon emissions in the city. In its new avatar, the forest town is going to be an example of good and clean living.

  • Singapore To Invest $1.1 Billion For Public Sector Infocomm In 2010

    The Singapore Government announced today that it plans to invest S$1.1 billion worth of new infocomm tenders in Financial Year (FY) 2010.

    This is consistent with past years’ procurement trends, excluding one-off major developmental projects such as the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network and SOE projects, with the actual procurement in FY2009 being S$1.12 billion.

    This announcement was made today by RADM(NS) Ronnie Tay, Chief Executive Officer of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), at the Industry Briefing 2010 on Business Opportunities for Infocomm in the Public Sector. Organised by IDA, the annual Briefing provides information to the infocomm industry about infocomm projects that are in the pipeline for Government agencies in the new FY.

  • Singapore to Invest US$4.15 mil in Analytics Services

    The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore—with its industry partners—has launched an initiative to provide business analytics via a shared services platform to local retailers and wholesalers.

    Six companies from Singapore’s retail and wholesale sectors will be piloting the scheme, which will be launched by the middle of next year. Three vendors, who have been chosen through a tendering process, will design and implement the analytics solutions in close collaboration with the six participating companies.

    The solutions will thereafter be made available for use by other enterprises through a subscription process.
