  • IN: Haryana: Budget explores avenues to develop Gurugram as a global smart city

    500 startups to be set up in the coming years that will create more than one lakh jobs Even though there were no grand investment announcements, Haryana government in its budget explored various new avenues towards making Gurugram a global smart city. Among the major factors focussed by the government towards achieving this objective were developing infrastructure for startups and skill development, digital, road and metro connectivity, renewable energy and organic farming and sanitation systems.

    With traffic law violations on roads posing a significant challenge to the authorities concerned, CCTV cameras, installed under the Smart City project have emerged as an important tool for enforcing rules.

    These cameras not only monitor traffic flow but also detect violations, helping curb reckless driving. Traffic violators are being issued challans online after being captured by cameras installed under the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) situated on the second floor of the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC). These violations, include jumping red lights, illegal parking, speeding, using a mobile phone while driving, failure to wear a helmet and triple riding.

    The traffic police, which has taken over the control of the Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) set up under the Smart City project, has issued as many as 563 postal challans in the past two months here.

    The traffic violations have been captured in the CCTV cameras installed under the project. To date, the police have been issuing challans manually and after intercepting the offenders on roads.

    E-governance is the new buzzword in Haryana's administrative circles. The state has kept itself busy in the recent years trying to shift to this new info-tech mode like never before. A massive data centre is being established in Chandigarh, which will act as a central 'cloud' server for all government departments anywhere in Haryana. All land records are being digitized and are to be made available online.

    Citizen services like pension claims, tax payments, and grievance redress are now all accessible at the click of a button. How efficient these projects are in the long run remains to be seen. But this, at least, is a start. And the next essential step now, according to the National Informatics Centre (NIC) officials in Gurgaon, is to ensure proper training for the government officials. NIC is organizing a computer literacy program for the government officials in the city, which will be held in various departments over the next few weeks. Officials say that the program is slated to begin after August 15, and will focus on various aspects of incorporating IT in governance and practical training.

  • IN: Haryana: Cloud Connected eHealth Centre Launched In Kaithal

    Aiming to provide health care in remote areas and generate data for research and policy-making, Union Minister for Science and Technology Jaipal Reddy on Tuesday launched a cloud-connected eHealth Centre in Kaithal district of Haryana from here.

    Customised in unused shipping containers with high-end cloud-connectivity for video and audio links, the eHealth Centres can be rapidly deployed at any place. The centres will be manned by trained medical staffs equipped with necessary medical equipments.

  • IN: Haryana: Digital revenue record to ease preparing land database

    The entire revenue record of Haryana would be digitised and updated using high resolution satellite imageries for the seamless preparation of a database of land records. The updated maps would be geo-referenced using the benchmark Ground Control Points being identified and fixed in the state using advanced technology of Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS).

    According to revenue and disaster management minister Mahender Partap Singh, all the records available at the district headquarters would be digitised in a GIS (Geographic Information System) environment and the same would be updated by the respective village patwaries using the Sajra maps and other land records available with them.

  • IN: Haryana: Dilapidated e-toilets raise a stink in Faridabad

    Around two years ago, 10 state-of-the-art e-toilets were inaugurated in the city under Rs 2.19 crore Smart City project, which are now in a dilapidated state. These have become defunct due to poor upkeep and maintenance.

    “Owing to poor and filthy condition and nobody to clean them on a regular basis, a majority of locals and visitors to the Sector 19 market area are unable to use these facilities,” said Hari Ram, a local. He said the stinking toilets don’t even have proper water supply. He said the automated system in which the toilet doors open after inserting a coin got damaged soon after these were installed.

    The cameras will help identify miscreants who flee the scene, taking advantage of the rush, said officials

    The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) installed eight facial recognition cameras at the entry and exit of the MG Road Metro station on Friday.

    Eight such cameras will also be installed at the Sikanderpur metro station before June 10. GMDA officials said that they are yet to receive permission from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for installing facial recognition cameras at the Huda City Centre station.

The command centre was inaugurated by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on December 5, 2021 for monitoring traffic and strengthening the safety and security of the city.

    The Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA) has issued a new tender for the installation of 1,050 additional CCTV cameras across the city, with an estimated cost of Rs 60 crore. The move is expected to triple the city’s CCTV coverage, significantly enhancing law and order surveillance.

    The government has spent over Rs 822 crore in Faridabad under the Smart Cities Mission.

    Haryana’s Faridabad – one of the 100 cities selected to be developed as a “Smart City” – received Rs 833 crore from the centre and state government under the Smart Cities Mission till February this year. Out of this, Rs 822 crore was reportedly spent on various infrastructural projects.

    369 cameras to be operational in July, rest by Sept

    The CCTV coverage in the city is going to get better and wider. As many as 369 CCTVs will come up by July 15 under the ongoing Smart City project. A total of 1,690 CCTVs are expected to be made functional by September-end.

    Disclosing this here today, NK Katara, senior consultant with the Faridabad Smart City Limited (FSCL), the body carrying out the project, said the CCTV coverage had been an integral part of the project and the work on it was nearing the final stages. The first lot of 369 cameras would be made operational in July, while the rest of the 1,321 cameras would be made functional by September-end.

  • IN: Haryana: GMDA plans 4 smart city projects by next March

    The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) proposed four smart city projects for the current financial year worth Rs 69 crore. The projects include smart water management, implementation of phase two of CCTV-based public safety and adaptive traffic management across the city for implementation of adaptive traffic light control system and connectivity at bus shelters and government buildings on optical fibre network. The cost of the projects will be Rs 19 crore, Rs 30 crore, Rs 10 crore and Rs 10 crore, respectively.

    All projects have been approved at the recently held authority meeting and the metropolitan authority has now sought public feedback on them.

    To accelerate infrastructure development to support seamless public transport services in city A. Sreenivas, Chief Executive Officer of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), chaired a review meeting of the Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) on Wednesday.

    The meeting was attended by senior officers of GMCBL and officials of Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) Ltd.

    At the time of its launch some two years ago, the Haryana government's grievance redressal portal - www.harsamadhan.gov.in - was touted as nothing less than an e-governance breakthrough. "An endeavour of the Haryana government for fast samadhan (redressal) of every kind of citizen's grievance with a vision of pursuing excellence in e-governance," stated the official statement.

    But looking at the number of cases the website has received until recently - and indeed the number of cases solved as yet - the whole thing appears distinctly unlike a success story.

  • IN: Haryana: Govt to create statewide cadre of IT professionals

    Keeping in view the availability of information technology (IT) manpower resources in the state for implementation of e- governance solutions, the Haryana government has decided to set up a statewide cadre of IT professionals.

    An official spokesperson said the need of IT professionals was felt to create a proper system and better execution of e-governance.

    For this purpose, IT cadre rules had already been prepared by the IT department and the matter was under consideration. It was expected to commence recruitment for the same during the current year, he said.

  • IN: Haryana: Gurgaon: ‘Withdraw biometric attendance for workers’

    The opposition councillors in the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) have demanded that the biometric attendance system introduced for sanitation workers should be withdrawn immediately. They say the workers are being penalized and their salaries are cut if they are late in marking their attendance on this system even by a few minutes.

    "We want the contractor to be punished and not the poor sweepers for the lack of sanitation in the city. First of all, this biometric attendance system was introduced by MCG authorities without even taking the approval of the House. This biometric attendance system should be withdrawn immediately," said Sunita Kataria, INLD councillor.

    The city will soon get the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), a flagship project of the Union home ministry. The project is a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency of effective policing, especially at the police stations, through adoption of e-Governance and creation of nationwide networked infrastructure. Once implemented, CCTNS would create a platform for sharing intelligence across all states. It would also create a platform for sharing information and database on crime and criminals across all states. It would improve investigation and crime prevention and facilitate better tracking of criminals, suspects, accused and repeat offenders.

  • IN: Haryana: Gurgaon: Cloud-based portal for property registration

    The Haryana revenue and disaster management department is rolling out a cloud-based centralised online system, Web-HALRIS, to manage property registration and land records in the state. The system is presently being pilot tested.

    In a meeting held on Tuesday to review the progress of digitisation of land records, property registration and other e-governance initiatives taken to ease the interface of the public, the revenue and disaster management minister, Captain Abhimanyu, directed officials to roll out new initiatives and pilot projects in a time-bound manner.
