  • IN: Gujarat: Ahmedabad: JnNURM nod to Rs 15.9 crore e-governance project

    The ambitious Rs 15.9 crore e-governance project for Ahmedabad city has finally been given the nod by the JnNURM committee. The project once implemented will not only strengthen electronic interface between the public and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), but also bring in transparency in taxation issues.

    One of the high tech projects that has been sanctioned is the Global Information System (GIS)-based civic administration. "This involves mapping all civic utility lines on a satellite map of the city. Officers dealing with each of the civic utilities will enter the condition and daily report pertaining to functioning of infrastructure on the map. Even complaints registered by citizens at various civic centres will get highlighted on the map in real time. This will unify the function of the AMC in all aspects," says a senior AMC official involved with the project.

    Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) as part of preparations for the upcoming 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 to inspect the progress of the industrial smart city and its infrastructure projects.

    The first phase of the Dholera Industrial Smart City, being developed around 100 km away from Ahmedabad, is nearing completion and land allotment for industries has already begun, officials said on Monday. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) as part of preparations for the upcoming 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 to inspect the progress of the industrial smart city and its infrastructure projects.

    The much-awaited AMC Smart Parking app is now available on Google Play store. But before trusting it to find you a parking space it is better to know that the data on the app does not match real-time availability of parking spaces.

    For example, at about 4pm on Friday, the AMC smart parking app showed that there were only 21 parking slots available at the Navrangpura multilevel parking complex. But a drive to the parking area revealed that the top two floors of the parking were vacant and could accommodate 250-odd cars.

  • IN: Gujarat: Bhavnagar launches bar-coded ration card

    Bio-metric bar-coded ration card, which was a much awaited reform in civil supplies, has become a reality in Bhavnagar, which has launched the scheme that aims to curb rampant use of bogus cards.

    The scheme is designed to ensure that the right beneficiary gets the desired amount of foodgrains and other benefits.

    On Thursday, bar-coded ration cards were distributed at Bahadurgadh village in Palitana taluka. With this, at least one village in all 11 talukas of Bhavnagar district has been covered. Total number of cards distributed in the last fortnight is around 6,000. Bhavnagar district supply office aims to distribute five lakhs cards in coming three months.

    Chief minister Narendra Modi said Saturday that the government will introduce biometric attendance system for teachers and students in government primary schools in rural areas. Modi was speaking in Junagadh district on the final day of the three-day Shala Praveshotsav campaign.

  • IN: Gujarat: Biometric cards must for fishermen this season

    Security agencies have asked fishermen not to go out on high seas without biometric cards issued to them by the state government.

    The fishing season starts from August 15. Kuldip Singh Sheoran, commander of Coast Guard, north-west region, said at a seminar on Friday that patrol boats would not allow fishermen to go out to the sea unless they had proper identity documents. "If we find men on a boat without biometric cards, we will send the boat back," he said. However, some leaders of the fishermen's community protested, saying that half the fishermen did not have such identity cards.

  • IN: Gujarat: Biometric ration cards launched in Banaskantha village

    The Gujarat government on Friday launched bar coded biometric ration cards (BRC) at Moria village, eight kms from Palanpur, the headquarter town of Banaskantha. Food and civil supplies minister Narottam Patel distributed the BRCs to the villagers. He said the distribution of BRCs in the state will be completed within four months. The BRCs will help check corruption related to subsidised commodities which are sold at fair price shops. The BRCs will also remove the problem of bogus ration cards. "So far we have detected 26 lakh bogus cards holders in Gujarat. The BRCs will bring a sea change in the public distribution system," the minister said.

    Food and civil supplies secretary Raja Kumar said, "The fair price shop-keeper will provide the commodities only to genuine consumers. The BRC has detailed identification of the members along with the thumb impression of head of the family. The shop-keeper will furnish his statement every month along with the details about the remaining stock through E-gram Centre. The information received from different centres in the state will be compiled by food and civil supplies department in the capital."

The website will have a new feature, which will encourage 'citizen journalism,' a concept where a common man can take up the role of a journalist. The website will not only allow users to report, but also post pictures and videos of an event.

    "We are working on the new feature and it will be active in a month's time. The idea is to encourage citizens to come forward and report on the wrong doings that they spot," said, Hiren Joshi, officer on special duty to the chief minister on Tuesday.

    Gujarat’s second largest city and a major economic hub in India, Surat, with a population of 4.6 million, has partnered Microsoft India to transform the city into a smart city.   • IN: Gujarat: e-broadcast project to be launched in Amreli today

    In another e-governance initiative, the state government is all set to launch an e-broadcast project for rapid transmission of useful information. Chief minister Narendra Modi will launch 'Gujarat Swarnim Gram E-Broadcast Project' in Amreli today.

    Government spokespersons Jaynarayan Vyas and Saurabh Patel said that the state government will place LED display screens in villages with a view to establish direct contact with villagers.

    The screens will be used to rapidly broadcast information such as precautionary actions to be taken during natural calamities, weather information for farmers, pro-village schemes, 24-hour alert system, important public messages of the government, daily commodity rates, government recruitments, health related information and others.

    Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has set a two-year target to achieve international standards in its e-governance. One major change that it would bring about in Surat-which has the tag of being the best city in the country as far as e-governance is considered-is online approval of construction plans within six months.

    It has an auto DPR software installed in its system but doesn't have a Geographical Information System (GIS). Thus an applicant seeking approval of his construction plan has to physically come and submit the proposals.

    The city has been gifted with a few interesting projects just before Diwali. For, the standing committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved some interesting proposals during a meeting held on Wednesday.

    In order to speed up the process on its website, the civic body has approved the e-governance project that would be carried out at a cost of Rs35.49 crore by Tata Consultancy Service (TCS).

    Civic body to begin e-enabled services on its 38th anniversary

    On its 38th anniversary on Saturday, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) is set to empower residents with technology-enabled services that will make tax payment, seeking building use permission or registering complaints easier and faster, at the press of cellphone key or a click of mouse.

    The RMC will become first local body in Gujarat to provide facilities like property tax payment through mobile phones and seeking and granting building use permission through emails.

    Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), on Tuesday announced completion of the first phase of Online Development Approval System (ODAS) under the authority GIFT Urban Development Authority (GIFT UDA).

    ODAS as a part of e-governance is an e-platform through which the entire process from submission of complete building development plan to its approval, is possible to complete online within 15 days.
