  • IN: Haryana to set up information technology cadre

    The Haryana government Saturday announced its plan to create an information technology (IT) cadre for implementation of the state's e-governance initiatives in various departments.

    An official spokesman said that the state government has already prepared the basic structure for the IT cadre and it would be finalising the same shortly.

  • IN: Haryana Transport dept to launch e-payment service

    Owners of transport vehicles in Haryana would soon be able to pay the road tax online as the state transport department is going to launch e-payment service.

    Under e-payment service, the motor vehicle owners would be able to pay the quarterly road tax of their transport vehicles through the website of the department using their internet banking account.

    The citizens depositing any fee or tax in the offices of Registering and Licensing Authorities for obtaining various services would be sent back an SMS acknowledging receipt of the amount, Haryana Transport Commissioner, Sumita Misra said.

  • IN: Haryana Urban Development Authority launches e-governance initiative

    Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has asked all its allottees to become part of the e-governance initiative launched in its Estate Offices so as to enable them to see details as well as status and make payment of their property online.

    A HUDA spokesman said that allottees could collect their user ID as well as password for their plots from the Estate Offices’ single window. The information can be collected online at www.huda.gov.in. They can also register their mobile number on the portal and get the information through an SMS alert.

    All units of Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED) will soon come online and information about the actual position of a unit can be accessed with a single click.

    Besides, biometric attendance system will be implemented at Hafed headquarters and CCTV cameras will be set up in all its establishments, an official spokesman said here today.

    Adding another feather to its e-cap, the gram panchayat of Bibipur in Haryana has started replying to RTI queries on e-mail within two days of their application.

    Setting an example of transparency in governance, all important documents of the panchayat are being uploaded on Facebook and made available on Whatsapp. And hold on, there is a proposal to make the village WiFi-enabled for free access of the Internet for the villagers. The village launched its own website, www.bibipur.com, in 2010.

    It was touted as an e-governance breakthrough at the time of its launch in 2010 by the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government. But more than four years on, the much-hyped public grievance redress portal - www.harsamadhan.gov.in - has turned out to be a flop.

    This inference can be drawn from a recent review report of the portal (a copy of which is with TOI), according to which, out of a total of 7,224 complaints registered so far from across Haryana, only 1,462 have been redressed; and out of 200 grievances received from Gurgaon, only 2%, or 4, have been resolved.

    The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to roll out the third phase of its extensive CCTV coverage project, aiming to install 10,000 CCTV cameras along 400 kilometers of the main road network under their jurisdiction, officials said. This phase seeks to enhance the safety and security of residents by providing comprehensive surveillance across the Millennium City, covering main road networks, public places, and community areas, they added.

  • IN: Haryana: 10,000 smart cameras to be installed in Gurugram

    With an aim to strengthen full-proof security here in Gurugram, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will install 10,000 smart cameras across the city in the third phase of the CCTV surveillance project, officials said.

    Under this, 400 km of road will be covered and about Rs 422 crore will be spent on this project.

    This proposal will be placed in the GMDA board meeting to be held under the chairmanship of the Haryana Chief Minister. It will be taken forward after the CM's approval.

    To enhance surveillance and traffic monitoring, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has launched Phase 2 of its CCTV camera project which will see the addition of 2,722 cameras at 258 locations across the city and its outskirts, said officials aware of the matter. The move was cleared by the Haryana chief minister on June 2 during a high powered works purchase committee meeting in Chandigarh.

The police have asked the authorities concerned to provide another 566 cameras for the project, which was launched to improve law and order in the city.

    Five years after inclusion in the Smart Cities Mission programme, Karnal Smart City Project is taking shape. Around 65 per cent projects are either completed or on verge of completion even after facing shortage of material and labour owing to the Covid-induced lockdown, said an official.

    As per the information collected by The Tribune, Karnal was included in the list of Smart Cities on June 23, 2017. The government had hired consultant and appointed the CEO for the execution of projects in October 2018.

    The Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) scheme commenced with the initial rollout in 20 districts covering seven scholarship schemes. Another 23 districts will be covered by March this year. The intention is to link all government benefits to Aadhaar-based identification of beneficiaries and to channelise the cash benefits through Aadhaar-enabled bank accounts.

    Irrespective of the merits of translating some benefits delivered in kind like in PDS into their cash-equivalent, for the DBT scheme of routing cash benefits through Aadhaar-enabled bank accounts to succeed, some things are essential prerequisites: an electronic database of beneficiaries to be maintained on a continuing and regular basis by the concerned line departments and seeding of the database of beneficiaries with Aadhaar numbers.
