  • IN: Gujarat: Govt offices to have Wi-Fi for public soon

    Gujarat government has decided to have wireless internet services at district collector, DDO, municipal commissioner, police commissioner and other government offices and visitors too will have access to the wireless services.

    The government has initiated a plan to increase the speed of GSWAN (Gujarat State Wide Area Network) from the existing 34 MBPS to 500 MBPS to give boost to the e-governance initiative. In the next few months, people will have free internet access through Wi-Fi at public offices.

    The government is planning to launch biometric ration cards along with online ration cards option for those who use ration cards only for the LPG gas across the state. The project is likely to be launched in a month or two.

    Sources in the state government said, “The biometric bar-coded ration card pilot project is launched in around 250 blocks. We have observed some bottlenecks like speed and connectivity problems at e-dhara centres and accessibility of cyber cafes for issuing bar-coded ration coupons for BPL cardholders.

  • IN: Gujarat: Kenya seeks Food and Drug Control Administration's e-governance programme

    Gujarat government's e-governance initiative has generated interest from Kenya's drug regulators. Impressed by the systematic performance of Xtended Licensing and Laboratory Note (XLN), developed and adopted by Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), Kenya is likely to introduce a similar model in the African country.

    A delegation led by Dr Ahmed Mohamed, director of inspection and surveillance team from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) had visited Gujarat FDCA earlier this month. The self-licensing software has enabled the FDCA to regulate the sales and manufacturing aspects related to drugs, food and cosmetics, issuance of licenses, among other things. The software enables online registration of all the pharmacists and chemists, preventing multiple illegal enrollment of pharmacists to ensure public safety.

    Mid-sized Indian IT services company L&T Technology Services (LTTS) on Monday announced a strategic partnership with the Colorado Smart Cities Alliance (CSCA) to build smart city development projects across the state of Colorado integrating innovation and technology.

  • IN: Gujarat: MICA develops model for agriculture communication

    A research by faculty of the Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad (MICA) shows that there has been technology gap between the information technology (IT) and agriculture, resulting in limited reach of the information. The study says that lack of awareness about various initiatives of IT in agriculture has led to loss of productivity.

    "There is content gap as the farmers did not get information on local market prices and the information to facilitate their farm practices. The information was generic in nature and there were time constraints in local radio. Lack of awareness about the initiative has been one of the major factors that led to the loss of productivity," said the research paper by Prof Arbind Sinha, Prof Santosh K Patra and Alok Brambhatt and Sunil Bhat on ICT and Agricultural Communication.

    `Mobile Governance' could help solve people's problems faster through better application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said today.

    "The mobile phone is now being used by the common man with ease and Gujarat is first to spread its usage in governance," he said while inaugurating a three-day conference, e-INDIA, in Gandhinagar.

    The new concept of `Mobile Governance' would be on the lines of 'e-Governance' and 'Good Governance', he added.

    In a yet more brilliant e-governance initiative, Chief Minister Narendra Modi today launched ‘Gujarat Swarnim Gram E-Broadcast Project’ in Amreli. Initially the project is being implemented as ‘district pilot scheme’ in 51 villages of 11 talukas of Amreli district.

    Launching the project, Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi in his address congratulated the District Development Officer(DDO) of Amreli who had presented this idea in state government’s Chintan Shibir.

    Navsari district has won an award from the central government for being the best digital district of Gujarat. Navsari district National Informatics Centre has been applauded for its e-documentation work. Navsari district National Informatics Centre did well in parameters like IT enabling, user friendliness, local innovations etc. during the Digital India Week in July 2015.

    "One of the biggest achievement for us this year has been setting up of a file tracking system for internal monitoring. This has helped us in getting e -governance on track in the district," said district collector Remya Mohan, who accepted the award in New Delhi recently along with other officials from Navsari.

    "To be smart, with the help of experts like Darshaw & Company private limited, we have set up 21 parameters that covers and provides smart solutions to basic infrastructure issues like e-governance and citizen services, waste management, water supply system, energy system, urban transportation and others." Said Milind Torwane, Municipal Commissioner after presenting the vision of local body for future of Surat city on Thursday.

  • IN: Gujarat: Rajkot civic body to install more kiosks for paying taxes

    The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) will soon install five more multi-functional transaction kiosks across the city so that residents can pay property and water taxes more easily. The decision has been taken after more than 600 people used the kiosk at Amin Marg civic centre to pay taxes worth Rs 33.28 lakh.

    RMC officials expect that within one year, about five per cent of tax-payers will switch over to internet and kiosk-based payment modes in the city. The kiosk works like an ATM, where residents can come and pay their taxes at any time in the day without standing in lines.

    The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has won the Manthan Award (South Asia-Digital inclusion for Development) for its mobile-governance project in the e-governance category. The civic body was awarded second prize in the e-governance category at the function held on Friday in New Delhi.

    "RMC has been on the forefront to use IT to deliver various civil services to its citizen in a more friendly manner and were constantly improving it so as to reach out to people in a very efficient way," said Ajay Bhadoo, municipal commissioner, RMC.

  • IN: Gujarat: Rajkot Municipal Corporation to connect all ward offices with e-governance

    Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) is planning to connect its all ward offices with e-governance in this year. In its proposed budget for year 2013-14 the municipal corporation has given priority to infrastructure and transportation projects. On Thursday, municipal commissioner Ajay Bhadoo also proposed RMC budget of Rs 1,090 crore for the same.

    "RMC is the first corporation who launched e-payment facility in Gujarat and now we will connect all our 23 ward offices with e-governance in this year. Moreover we will be the first corporation to start online issuing of birth certificate with digital signature. There will be also facility of online registration of birth from the hospital," said Bhadoo. RMC has proposed to spend about Rs 1.45 crore on e-ward office and other e-governance related facilities.

    The ‘Atal Smart City', built in Raiya under the Smart City Mission of the central govt, was inaugurated by chief minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday. The robust infrastructure, with all modern facilities, was created in TP scheme number 32 at a cost of Rs 550 crore.

    Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) believes that around four lakh people will come to reside in this area.

    The ‘Atal Smart City' is spread over 930 acres of land. The project started on Aug 23, 2019 and was completed on Nov 19, 2024.

    Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to start a pilot project by December 2014 for real time integration of basic infrastructural sectors like water supply, sewerage, transportation and solid waste management. This is a first step towards making Surat a smart city.

    A workshop was held in the city on Tuesday in this regard. It was attended by experts from technical institutes, agencies and SMC officials.
