Apart from Gurgaon, the project will be launched in Panchkula by March 2012. According to joint commissioner of police Alok Mittal, training labs have been commissioned for the project. "All districts have started computer awareness training in their computer training labs. We have been training our staff for basic computer knowledge. We help them create email IDs and teach them how to operate their accounts. Also, the Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA) training helps them register complaints and FIRs online," said Mittal.
According to statistics, 10,978 police officials have undergone Basic Computer Awareness Training in the labs across Haryana. Another 18,000 would be trained in the coming year. Haryana chief secretary Urvashi Gulati said, "The project would be rolled out across the state over the next two years. The ministry of home affairs has approved funds amounting to Rs 31.39 crore for the implementation of the CCTNS project in Haryana." She suggested that roping in the members of Residents' Welfare Associations and inviting them for interactive sessions for soliciting suggestions on the system will help greatly in the project. "Massive awareness campaigns are needed so that the efforts do not go waste," she added at a meeting held in Chandigarh on Friday. Haryana was the first state to release a request for proposal (RFP) for selection of system integrator (SI) for the implementation, commissioning and maintenance of the CCTNS project. "After completion of the tendering process, a state-level committee shortlisted Hewlett-Packard as the SI for a contract of Rs 53 crore," said Gulati.
