  • Bahrain: E-government is launched...

    Bahrain's government moved into the hi-tech age yesterday with the launch of Bab Al Bahrain - an electronic website.

    It will link all government ministries and help speed up services to citizens via the Internet.

    Central Informatics Organisation president Shaikh Ahmed bin Attiyatalla Al Khalifa said the e-government gate is the by-product of long years of hard work and non-stop planning to prepare crucial infrastructure.

    Authorities are hoping to gauge the private sector's expectations of the new e-government initiative through a survey for businessmen available online.

    The survey, prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) was presented to a limited number of private sector representatives at a meeting at the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) yesterday.

  • Bahrain: e-portal offers 100 services

    People in Bahrain will have access to nearly 100 services from the country's e-government portal by the end of the year, it has been announced.

    There are more than 65 services available, including payment of municipal bills and visa applications.

    The recent change of address of the e-Government portal is also in line with the ongoing expansion of e-services, said e-Government Authority chief executive Mohammed Al Qaed.

  • Bahrain: E-project gaining pace...

    SCORES of Bahrainis are being trained for the successful completion of the country's e-government project, it has been revealed.

    Major achievements have been realised in the past 20 months since Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa ordered the implementation of an e-government strategy, said Central Informatics Organisation (CIO) acting president Shaikh Ahmed bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa.

  • Bahrain: E-security boosted: systems to carry essential services to citizens

    Fifth of Bahrain's e-government budget is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art e-security measures, said undersecretary of Central Informatics Organisation (CIO) Shaikh Ahmed bin Ateyatallah Al Khalifa.

    He said the latest e-security measure taken was the signing of a major deal with Trend Micro, one of the world's leading Internet-security providers to protect the e-government network from virus attacks.

  • Bahrain: E-services a hit with the people

    More than 2,000 people visited Bahrain's e-government website, www.e.gov.bh, within 12 hours of its launch, said Director General of Information Technology at the Central Informatics Organisation Mohammed Al Qaed.

    The website's 13 pages were navigated by more than 784 visitors for nearly 20 to 60 minutes and 75 people scanned it for more than three minutes, he added.

  • Bahrain: E-services hit new highs

    The basic e-services to be provided for the people of the Kingdom will reach 93 within the next six months, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs Shaikh Ahmed bin Attiyatullah Al Khalifa announced yesterday.

    The Bahrain eGovernment Agency was working with various ministries and government institutions to add 50 new e-services to the current pool of 43 services on the e-governance website www.gov.bh, he said.

  • Bahrain: e-Tender project begins

    Bahrain Tender Board (BTB), which had won international accolades for being the most transparent body in the public sector, announced the launch of e-tendering project to integrate all the ministries and business community to utilise a single e-tendering system. The completion of the project is expected to take six months. BTB's move towards a central e-tendering system is fostered by the board's mandate to strengthen transparency and fair competition. The adoption of e-tendering by the tender board is an important element of the planned introduction of e-government by Bahrain.

  • Bahrain: E-training chance for state staff

    A programme to train Bahraini government employees in advanced project management has been launched by the e-Government Authority.

    The first course was organised by EGA in co-operation with leading UK training provider, Learning Tree International, at the Central Informatics Organisation, Isa Town.

    It was attended by 25 government officials, representing working groups from the ministries and government departments involved in the e-Government projects.

  • Bahrain: eContent development must for excellence

    The Kingdom will continue to develop electronic content capabilities as part of national strategy, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, said yesterday.

    Dr Hassan Abdullah Fakhro, who was chief guest at eContent Award at a ceremony held at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) said that the government was keen to further develop the electronics industry. Dr Hassan Fakhro who presented the best eContent awards to the winners in the Bahrain electronic contest 2007 said that competition was an attempt to boost the industry at the level of local and regional markets, pointing to its significant role in the national economy.

  • Bahrain: Education e-service portal is launched

    A new Education Ministry e-service has been launched on the e-Government National Portal. The e-service registration for continuous education programmes was launched in co-operation with the e-Government Authority.

    It offers registration for the language programmes provided by the ministry through its community services and continuous education departments.

  • Bahrain: eGA introduces new e-Office project Zajil

    The eGovernment Authority (eGA) announced yesterday the introduction of its new e-Office project 'Zajil' enabling national government bodies to bolster their official correspondence electronically.

    "The effort is to transform the processes and means of handling and exchanging official correspondence to the electronic method," said eGA in a statement yesterday.

    eGovernment Authority has announced the creation of the Kingdom's first National Contact Centre, a strategic move to enhance communication between the public, government departments and authorities in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

    The initial contract of BD109 500.00, to design and build the centre has been awarded to BDO Jawad Habib, one of Bahrain's leading strategic consultants.

  • Bahrain: eGovernment Authority kicks off 'Enterprise Architecture Project'

    Stemming from its mission to achieve fully integrated and effective eGovernance in the Kingdom, the eGovernment Authority of Bahrain (eGA) rolled out a new initiative that will upgrade and standardize the level of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in all government entities.

    The initiative, named the Enterprise Architecture Project (EAP), is considered to be the first of kind in the region and will make governmental procedures quicker and more streamlined.

    Upgraded infrastructure has increased capacity of portal tenfold

    The eGovernment Authority of Bahrain (eGA) began the transition process to the new upgraded infrastructure of the National Portal (www.bahrain.bh) on Saturday. The new infrastructure improves the efficiency of the National Portal by increasing its capacity tenfold, and offers a unified and comprehensive platform to smoothly access government eServices at any time.

  • Bahrain: eGovernment Authority measures customer satisfaction among public

    The eGovernment Authority today signed an agreement with the Nielsen Company, the world's leading provider of marketing information and audience measurement indices.

    Present at the signing were Mr. Mohammed Al Qaed, CEO of eGoverment Authority and Mr. George Mikaelian Managing Director Gulf region for Nielsen as well as other senior officials from both parties.

  • Bahrain: eGovernment Authority Signs Two MoUs with Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization

    The Bahraini eGovernment Authority (eGA) and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) which will facilitate GCC and fellow Arab nations to benefit from the latest developments and innovations in the ICT field.

    According to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the two agreements were signed by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, President of the Strategic Council for the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID), part of the United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and eGovernment Authority CEO Mohammed Al Qaed.
