More than 2,000 people visited Bahrain's e-government website, www.e.gov.bh, within 12 hours of its launch, said Director General of Information Technology at the Central Informatics Organisation Mohammed Al Qaed.

The website's 13 pages were navigated by more than 784 visitors for nearly 20 to 60 minutes and 75 people scanned it for more than three minutes, he added.

Mr Al Qaed said 32 per cent of the visitors were from government ministries and 47pc from Batelco Internet subscribers.

A large number of people from around the world including New Zealand, Australia, Alaska and the US have accessed the website, revealed Mr Al Qaed.

Three teams in-charge of layout, design and content had created the website according to international standards.

Mr Al Qaed urged the mass media to spread awareness about the services available at the website so that the initiative will succeed and prove beneficial for the citizens.
