The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has a clear path in the way forward for the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the expansion of E-Government services.

This was stressed by ICT Development Coordinator Christopher Herbert on this week’s edition of the SKNIS radio magazine, Perspectives.

St. Kitts and Nevis will use the single namespace gov.kn to help enhance the image of the twin-island Federation and facilitate nationals living here and abroad, as well as potential investors, interfacing with government’s agencies and departments.

“The naming of websites and other e-services will strictly follow international best practice,” said Minister of State for Education, Information and Technology, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty.

Individuals with Internet access now have government information at their fingertips thanks to the new Web portal at Internet address www.gov.kn.

The portal began functioning to the public on 3 March, out of its home base at the National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre. According to ICT Policy Advisor Pierre Bowrin, the Web portal is the first of its kind to be hosted in St. Kitts/Nevis and forms part of the e-government strategy.

The Information and Communication Technology Centre (ICT) is intended to lead the nation into the digital world.

According to Colin Frank, head of the ICT Centre, the ICT will increase productivity and transparency.

“It is also intended to provide greater access to technology, training and communication for all members of the community with special emphasis placed on the disadvantaged,” Frank said in an exclusive interview with Sun St. Kitts/Nevis.

The government of St. Kitts/Nevis continues to emphasised the importance of the information and communication technology (ICT) sector and has reaffirmed its commitment to further development.

Prime Minister Dr. Denzil L. Douglas reported that concrete steps have been taken to realise the goals of building a knowledge- based economy and an e-society through offering universal access to and the use of modern information and communications technologies.
