The Information and Communication Technology Centre (ICT) is intended to lead the nation into the digital world.

According to Colin Frank, head of the ICT Centre, the ICT will increase productivity and transparency.

“It is also intended to provide greater access to technology, training and communication for all members of the community with special emphasis placed on the disadvantaged,” Frank said in an exclusive interview with Sun St. Kitts/Nevis.

The ICT is located next to Ocean Cold Storage and essentially will provide the blueprints to completely computerise government processes and procedures.

Funded by Taiwan, the ICT is outfitted with the latest in computer technology. Frank pointed out that in the computer training room, 25 Vista-ready networked PCs, equipped with 19” wide screen LCD monitors, are in place for training sessions.

The room is equipped with printing facilities and a digital light projector, which is mounted on the ceiling.

Also, the ICT centre has a state-of-the-art conference room which accommodates 30 to 40 people and is ideal for business meetings, seminars and training workshops.

It is equipped with teleconferencing and videoconferencing services, an overhead projector, TV and DVD player, and dry-erase board.

All of these services are available to the public sector, private sector, NGO’s and individuals by appointment, Frank said. A fee structure is in place for rental and use of these services and use of the facility.

Frank explained that the ICT featured an e-Government Development and Implementation Lab (EGDIL).The EGDIL is responsible for the development, testing and implementation of applications to convert public sector transactions into electronic transactions.

“It will make sure that government services are accessible to nationals, residents, visitors, and investors wherever they are. Systems analysts and software developers will be required to re-engineer government processes,” Frank said.

Also in place is the Project Management and Business Development Unit (PMBDU). The PMBDU will provide accommodation for professional staff involved in major ICT projects.

Then there is the government Web portal, which will be the starting point for individuals to begin electronic interaction with the government.

They can locate specific information and access online information business processes.
