This new service was designed by Al Elm Company; a public corporation owned by the Public Investments Fund for the Directorate General of Passports. The e-gate service was designed to extend quick and better services to passengers based on smart cards, eye iris and fingerprint identification technology. It enables passengers to finalize of traveling procedures without any need to stand on the traditional queues for verification of their identifications and for stamping their passports by passports officers. The verification process is done through the biological characteristics and fingerprints and eye prints.

It is with this objective that a two-day international conference on intelligent cities is to be held in Makkah in January next year. The conference will be organised by the Makkah Municipality in association with the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Haj Research.
According to the agreement, Yusr will link electronically the chamber's offices in the Kingdom to various government offices.
Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal will open the conference at Umm Al-Qura University’s King Abdul Aziz Historical Hall on Jan. 19. It will bring together a large number of experts from around the world to discuss the best ways to apply intelligent city concept to Makkah.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Communications, Saleh Al-Turki, head of the JCCI board, signed an agreement which will facilitate communications between the Kingdom’s government sectors.
