Dr Omane Boamah, Minister of Communications on Friday urged students to take the study of Information and Communication Technology seriously to improve the quality of their educational pursuit.

He said the Ministry is committed to improve access to ICT across the country and pursue its vision of promoting a viable integrated national development process within the global setting.

President John Daramani Mahama on Thursday pledged the government's readiness to continuously promote the rapid development of broadband infrastructure to reach all parts of the country to ensure that improved connectivity provided better access to health care and health information.

He said improved broad Information Communication Technology would also improve opportunities for education and training, transportation, protection of environment and management of natural resources, and to support E-government to create transparency in government.

A major e-Government Procurement (E-GP) project meant to enhance the country’s procurement processes and block the financial loopholes in the system will begin from January next year.

The project, which will begin as a pilot, is expected to also enhance transparency in the public procurement process; provide a common platform for use by public institutions in public procurement and public financial management; and enhance competition by facilitating increased participation of service providers for government contracts.

Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will be introducing biometric ID cards to its subscribers and piloting electronic claims processing, reports Graphic Online.

The NHIS plans to issue the biometric ID cards to its subscribers upon registration.

The e-claims processing pilots will start this year and will aim at creating greater efficiencies. The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) will be opening three more claims centers throughout the country, in addition to the center in Accra.
