Some employees of government and sub-vented employees as well as Cap 30 pensioners on Thursday appealed to the Ministry of Finance to consider opening up biometric registration offices in the regions.

They have also suggested to the government, as an interim measure, to augment the number of computers and workers at the only registration centre located in the Ministry of Finance.

They said these measures would lessen tension and corruption at the centre and relieve workers of nuisance and risk of having to travel to Accra to register.

Dr Omani Boamah, Minister of Communications, has said Ghana is committed to strengthening its bilateral relations with Italy to draw the expertise of the country in various sectors.

He said the country was ready to draw the expertise of Italy in social, political, economic and Information Communication Technology (ICT) to help move the Ghana forward.

Dr Boamah said this when the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Tullio Gumah paid a courtesy call on him on Tuesday in Accra.

Dr Edward Omani Boamah, the Minister for Communications, has said the government would make ICT one of the key drivers of national development and that the diffusion and transfer of technology would take centre stage in the national development agenda.

He said in this regard, the government is pursuing the rapid development of the national ICT infrastructure as a pre-requisite for the attainment of sustainable growth and development. Dr Boamah was speaking at the opening of a sensitization and awareness workshop for Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) on the e-Government platform Project Phase II under the theme ‘Improving Government Employees Productivity and Services through Innovative Technologies and Optimised Process Management’ yesterday in Accra.

Huawei Ghana said it has successfully completed the US$30 million phase one of the e-government project and has begun work on the US$150 million phase two.

The company gave the announced this at the recent launch of the phase two of the e-government project in Accra.

Funding for the whole project comprise a US$150 million loan from the Chinese EXIM Bank, with a US$30million concessionary bit; a US$40million loan from the World Bank and recently, some €37million concessionary loan from the Danish government.

The Electoral Commission (EC) says no voter was allowed to cast his/her ballot without undergoing biometric verification.

It said upon being served with the further and better particulars by the petitioners on 11,916 polling stations where alleged irregularities took place, it examined and analysed its records, adding, “the analysis confirmed that, no voters were allowed to vote without verification at any polling station.”
