Turkey undergoing transformation with e-government projects

With the e-government project undertaken by the State Planning Organization (DPT), public organizations are starting to make the Internet part of their lives. Now citizens can conduct their official transactions over the Internet, ending the era of red tape in bureaucracy.

Turkey's e-government project has started bearing fruit.

According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) report on the e-government, big steps, including $2.5 million in public investment for social security, have been taken towards the prevention of fraud, resulting in $1 billion in annual savings and increasing efficacy, resulting in another $3 billion in annual savings.

The unit cost of tax collection has dropped from $2 to $0.35 since many banks have begun collecting income taxes instead of tax departments.

The e-report execution that allows bureaucratic processing related with to the Social Security Organization (SSK) to be conducted via the internet has become the most successful e-government project in the world.

The project, introduced at the Social Security and Employment Seminar in the Spanish capital Madrid, received a great deal of attention from participants. The project, launched by the Social Security Organization with participation from Prime Minister Erdogan in May 2004, was introduced to authorities from dozens of countries including Mexico, France, Britain and Lithuania.
