The representatives of the Belarusian Communications Ministry and telecommunications companies discussed the issue of participation in the project on e-government and the High Technology Park (HTP) in Azerbaijan with their Azerbaijani colleagues at the first Azerbaijan-Belarus Information Technology Forum, Belarusian High Technologies Park Director Valery Tsepkalo said.

According to him, the forum promotes the search for ideas and interaction between the Azerbaijani and Belarusian companies which work in the field of software development.

On February 27, 2007, Council of Ministers Presidium of the Republic of Belarus discussed the draft programme of the informatization of the state system of education of Belarus for 2007-2010.

The programme is aimed at integration of the educational institutions into a unified information sphere; at creating new informational and educational resources and at modernization of the whole system. It is planned to allocate Br78,6 bln. (28MEUR) for a four years programme.

On April 27, Belarusian Minister of Communications and Informatization Vladimir Goncharenko informed the Board of Ministers that it is planned to enlarge Electronic Belarus programme by 51 new projects). The number of Electronic Belarus projects will total 109. Br 54bln are to be invested into the new projects including Br 29,9 bln for research and development and Br. 24,2bln for capital investments.

According to the Digital Governance in Municipalities Worldwide 2005 report, prepared by the E-Governance Institute at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Campus at Newark and the Global e-Policy e-Government Institute at Sungkyunkwan University 2005 Minsk (Belarus) took the 49th place in overall e-governance ranking list.

The Belarus Department of Informatization under the Ministry of Communications and Informatization is to be established in Belarus in accordance with a recent presidential decree.

The new department will be responsible for the co-ordination and integration of automated information systems for the various state agencies.
